Position Title: Freeride Coach, Part Time - Winter 25/26

Position Reports to: Snowsport Teams Supervisor, Snowsport Teams Manager

Positions Reporting to this Role:

Location: Crystal Mountain, Washington

Wage Range: $23.00 - 30.50/hr. DOE & Certifications - Coaching

JOB SUMMARY

The Freeride Team Coach at Crystal Mountain, Washington is responsible for training and mentoring young athletes in big mountain, all-mountain, and competition-focused freeride skiing and snowboarding. This position emphasizes skill development, safety, and mountain awareness while fostering a positive team culture. Coaches create progressive training plans, guide athletes through varied terrain and conditions, and support participation in IFSA-sanctioned events and other competitions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, high-level terrain competence, and the ability to inspire confidence and growth in athletes of varying ages and abilities. Weekend and holiday availability is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Coaching Crystal Mountain Freeride Programs; may be utilized as substitute coach.
  • Coaching freestyle/freeride focused lessons.
  • Available on weekends from December-March.
  • Uphold, promote, and support the Snowsport School vision of fostering a community of passionate skiers and riders.
  • Implement team training at the direction of the Freeride Manager: accountable for the quality of curriculum, products and services delivered.
  • Execute a long-term athlete development focus: athlete retention and skill development.
  • Know and adhere to schedule, time & attendance expectations.
  • Set up quality training environments: Transport and install necessary equipment for training, safety & security including closures, signage, training poles/panels, drills and other.
  • Communicate effectively with Team Members including guests and employees.
  • Ensure and execute teamwork within the team, departments, and company.
  • Attend and positively contribute to required trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Freeride Supervisor, Manager and/or SRS Director.
  • Assist operations of Crystal Mountain Resort hosted events.

Job Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong skiing/snowboarding skills; the ability to ski/snowboard all terrain at Crystal Mountain Resort in any condition.
  • Strong skiing/snowboard coaching skills; the ability to lead a group into all levels of terrain and conditions.
  • The ability to set a professional example both on and off the hill.
  • Proficiency with computers, phones, and mobile devices, their corresponding applications and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work well independently or within a group.
  • Excellent communication skills.


Preferred:

  • Experience in ski/snowboard competitions.
  • Experience coaching sports.


Education and Certifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent


Preferred:

  • IFSA Coach 100 or higher certification
  • USASA Coach 100 or higher certification
  • PSIA/AASI Level 2 or higher certification


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position may be required to work Crystal Mountain Resort hosted events, weekends and holidays while in operation.
  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time on skis/snowboard standing, sliding, sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Able to spend long periods outside without breaks. (Minimum 2 hours)
