The Position

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Roche.

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche's Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities. The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

This role will ensure that gRED and pRED are supported and enabled with world-leading image data analytics capabilities while supporting our projects through the clinical stages. You will lead a team of imaging experts in San Francisco and report into the Global Group Leader for Imaging Data Insights in the Computational Medicine Team. You will report into the Global Head of Computational Medicine.

As the Group Leader of Imaging Data Insights, you lead a local team developing and applying innovative data analysis solutions to support clinical development. This includes formulating scientific questions and analysis plans for analyzing patient populations using internal and external data as well as analyzing imaging biomarker data from clinical trials alongside other datatypes (e.g., sensors, -omics) to guide clinical stage molecules. You drive impact on the Roche portfolio and build strong relationships with stakeholders. Your responsibilities include making decisions on talent, resourcing, business processes, and capability development, contributing to the organization's overall success.

The Opportunity:

  • Responsible for hiring, promoting, retaining, and developing talent to unleash potential and broaden team members' knowledge, capabilities, and skills

  • Define vision and strategy for imaging data insights to achieve gRED and pRED objectives

  • Contribute to implementing world-leading imaging data analytics approaches supporting the identification of biomarkers, informing biomarker strategies, understanding of patient populations, and supporting the analysis of clinical trial data to inform portfolio projects

  • Ensure standardized and aligned tools and pipelines for reuse within imaging data insights, and with clinical scientists, biomarker, and translational medicine leaders

  • Ensure alignment and impact on clinical projects, focusing on modelling efficacy, safety, disease, and PK/PD relationships

  • Drive innovation in analysis approaches for new experimental data types in collaboration with scientists

Who You Are:

  • PhD in a scientific or technical field or equivalent qualification with 5+ years of professional experience in pharmaceutical R&D, including managing teams and forming new teams; deep knowledge in biomedical image analytics, AI/ML and imaging biomarker research

  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, handle ambiguity, and achieve timely and efficient results with multiple stakeholders; fosters an environment of growth and development for direct reports

  • Outstanding partnering skills to build trustful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders; actively promotes collaboration and leverages knowledge to create business solutions

  • Strong ability to communicate, influence, and lead effectively both with and without formal authority in complex environments
