We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Software Engineer I on our Information Technology team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 1 day a month.

This position will assist in enhancing
enterprise business systems, with a primary focus on maintaining and
administering the ServiceNow platform. This includes day-to-day platform
support, configuration, and workflow automation to improve internal IT and
business processes. The role also contributes to custom development projects
and helps ensure code quality, system reliability, and user satisfaction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

System Maintenance

  • Provide day-to-day support for ServiceNow workflows, forms, and platform modules.
  • Participate in platform maintenance activities such as applying patches, upgrades, and minor enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support incident resolution in partnership with IT operations and business stakeholders.
  • Assist with end-user testing and validation to confirm resolution of issues.

System Development Support

  • Collaborate on the full software development lifecycle for enhancements and new ServiceNow functionality-analyzing requirements, estimating work, and assisting with design and testing.
  • Assist in the development and configuration of features in ServiceNow to meet internal user needs, ensuring clean, maintainable, and secure code.
  • Support both agile and iterative development approaches, adapting to the project methodology in use.

Process Improvement & Optimization

  • Support efforts to streamline processes or improve existing system performance, as guided by senior staff.
  • Share knowledge with other developers and cross-train on related systems.
  • Participate in technical discussions and assist with documentation.
  • Communicate status updates regularly to project or portfolio managers.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field strongly preferred; or equivalent experience required.
  2. Prior experience in software development or application support preferred.
  3. Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  4. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  5. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  6. Comfortable interacting with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  7. Familiarity with healthcare or nonprofit environments is a plus.

Additional Technical Requirements:

  1. Exposure to or experience with ServiceNow administration, workflow development, ITSM (IT Service Management), and CMDB (Configuration Management Database).
  2. Understanding of relational databases (e.g., SQL).
  3. Familiarity with scripting or programming (e.g., JavaScript, HTML, or other web-based languages).
  4. Experience with source control systems such as Git is a plus.
  5. Understanding of unit testing and test-driven development practices.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $69,401 - $105,533. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
