Job Summary:
The Assistant Dean of Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Programs provides senior leadership for the creation, development, delivery, and management of undergraduate degree and post-baccalaureate certificate programs offered by the School of Professional Studies, as well as the undergraduate degree offered through the Northwestern University Prison Education Program. This position collaborates closely with faculty and administrators at the Weinberg College of Arts and Science and the School of Communication, two schools that confer SPS undergraduate degrees, and represents SPS on number of NU academic committees. This position retains oversight for the recruitment of faculty to teach in SPS undergraduate courses, a mix of faculty with academic appointments in other schools and adjunct faculty hired to teach SPS courses based on their professional expertise. The Assistant Dean works closely with the SPS Distance Learning department, managing the development and delivery of high-quality online courses. In addition, the Assistant Dean sits on, and manages, admissions committees to determine admissions and academic standards for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs, works with the Director of Marketing and Enrollment Management to help develop marketing and recruitment strategies and partners with the Associate Dean of Student Services to develop and implement academic policies. The Assistant Dean is responsible for managing the administrative budget for this department and supervises one full-time Asst. Director of Academic Programs and three Program Managers, in addition to six Program Directors and one Program Advisor. The position reports to the Associate Dean of Academics.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Identifies and develops innovative new academic programs; ensures that the SPS undergraduate and post-baccalaureate program array and courses are informed by best practices in adult education and online education.
- Ensures the quality of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs by establishing appropriate program assessment of student learning outcomes and by collaborating with faculty, program advisers/directors, and NU schools to maintain academic excellence and quality instruction in all undergraduate courses,
- Oversees recruitment, hiring and onboarding of instructional staff, collaborating with other SPS and NU areas to create effective professional development for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate faculty.
- Supervises the development and revision of curriculum in consultation with faculty, program advisors/directors, advisory boards and Distance Learning.
- Provide leadership in the development of undergraduate academic policies, procedures, and quality standards for students and faculty; has primary responsibility to investigate and adjudicate all cases of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate academic integrity violations.
- Represents SPS in campus committees and initiatives.
- Coordinates and participates in admissions meetings and reviews student applications to ensure that admissions standards are consistently applied.
- Represents undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs at student recruitment events, and provides training for internal staff (recruiters, advisors, registration staff, marketing team, etc.) to ensure that these programs are accurately and effectively represented.

- Supervises and coaches staff to support academic programs and operations to effectively meet the needs of students, faculty, and other SPS areas.

Minium Qualifications
- Ph.D. and five years of teaching experience.
- Demonstrated success in leading the development of high-quality online courses.
- 6 years of academic administrative experience, including staff management and new program development.
- Demonstrated success in implementing best practices in adult learning and program assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in an academic environment, interpret and establish academic policies, and effectively communicate to multiple stakeholders.
- Experience recruiting and mentoring highly qualified instructional staff.
- Experience administering and overseeing program budgets.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Valid state driver's license if driving animal transport van.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $132,500 - $139,500 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
