Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor

Full Time 1st Shift

Job Description:

Coordinates daily activities of one or more sections of the laboratory through QC review, work review, instrument maintenance and procedure writing. Maintains department activities to conform to state and HFAP standards. Will document work related incidents specific to section. Performs a wide range of technical procedures analyzing blood and various body fluids to expedite the physician's diagnosis and treatment of his patient. Records this data in the lab computer system and in other appropriate areas. Collects blood samples and urine samples for drug screening as needed. Additional responsibilities include performance of quality control and preventative maintenance.

Supervises employees performing testing; reviews tests result, provides counsel to employees when work is substandard; teaches, trains and provides an exemplary example to all lab employees. Provides leadership in the absence of the lab director.

Responsibilities may include additional items not included below:

  • Research and suggest new procedures and methods.
  • Stays current with developments in the department
  • Provides adequate coverage of department
  • Maintains positive inter and intra-departmental relations.
  • Actively participates in Laboratory Quality Assurance program.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate procedure manuals according to regulatory standards
  • Assigns/performs/reviews proficiency testing surveys.
  • Develop and maintain quality control procedures for all testing to ensure compliance with the standards of all applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Performs required studies and provides required documentation for all new procedures according to policy.
  • Obtains Medical Director and Lab Administrative Director approval prior to initiating new procedure.
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels with no outdating of supplies or shortages that may lead to unnecessary delays in the performance of patient testing.

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree with MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP)
  • Work experience to meet CLIA 88 standards for general supervisor position.
  • Certified in clinical laboratory science by recognized certifying agencies.
