Office Manager - Sheriff

Pay Range: $28.21 - $42.30

Job Summary


The Office Manager is responsible for supervising and scheduling Clerical staff members in the Civil Process Unit and Milwaukee County Sheriff Office (MCSO) Traffic Window. This role will also interview, hire, and train all new Civil Process and Traffic Clerks. Schedule and maintain coverage all clerical staff. Supervise and assign daily duties for all clerical staff. Generate and maintain reports as needed. Purchase, monitor, and maintain equipment and ample supplies needed for the Civil Process and Courts Division area. Any other duties as assigned by the Captain or Inspector.


Job Responsibilities:



  • Maintain a schedule to ensure proper coverage. Schedule vacation and other requests for time off. Complete an annual Employee Performance Review for Civil Process Clerks.
  • Assist with assisting customers at the windows, managing and completing Civil Process data entries. Back-up to vacant post, assist during peak times. Manage and balance all cash drawers. Verify all credit/debit transactions prior to turnover to fiscal.
  • Assist the Divisional Commander with ordering supplies, gathering data and briefing on any issues within the Unit.
  • Review and fact find customer complaints and inquires. Ensure proper communication and documentation of all civil process billings and payments.
  • Create reports and maintain statistics in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. These reports will be turned in to the captain. Review and verify contractor (SPS) billing and approve/apply payment for outstanding invoices.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to create job announcements. Interview and hire candidates, as well as train new employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience and Licenses/Certifications:



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin required.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D required. Associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of administrative/clerical, customer service and/or staff management required.

    • Previous computer experience, data entry, and electronic file maintenance is required


  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Intermediate Accounting skills.
  • Previous work experience in supervision or management of small groups preferred.
  • Previous work experience in a government law enforcement agency is desirable.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Exceptional people skills; ability to make sound judgment calls and use of common sense; ability to work under pressure; ability to lift/carry/push/pull 50 lbs.; and ability to supervise approximately 7 or more employees.
