The Weitz Company is seeking a Regional Safety Manager to support our Southwest (Phoenix, AZ) and Rocky Mountain (Denver, CO) Business Units. This position can be based out of either location. The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the development, implementation, and consistent application of The Weitz Safety Standards in assigned business. Regional Safety Managers have accountability for the performance of Safety Managers, Safety Engineers, and Project Safety Managers assigned to project(s). The goal is to eliminate injuries and incidents and effectively manage risk. This position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining successful relationships with all executive leaders in assigned business. - Provide input and support to Regional and Segment safety committees, joint accountability committees, and other staff meetings.
- Research and maintain information on all relevant, safety information.
- Publicize safety materials and serve as a resource for safety, security, and fire protection information and guidance.
- Maintain a thorough and current understanding of pertinent Company policies and procedures.
- Prepare high-quality safety performance reports for business management teams.
- Fulfill necessary crisis management roles.
- Attend and participate in "high hazard" scope of work preconstruction meetings, as needed.
- Assist with project safety planning and job safety analysis (JSAs) development.
- Authority to shut down construction operations in the presence of imminently dangerous to life or health situations.
- Monitor and reconcile expenditures of regional department budget.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive employee safety education curriculum, including but not limited to construction/renovation support, emergency preparedness and response, fire prevention and protection, general construction safety, hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene, and injury prevention.
- Publicize safety materials and serve as a resource for safety, risk management, security, and fire protection information.
- Remain current with OSHA 500 course, completion required every three years. Provide instruction to others as required.
- Other duties include auditing enforcement, training, and claim management.
What We're Looking For:
- Education: A Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, construction, engineering, or any related field is necessary for this position. Safety certifications are encouraged: OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CIH (Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, Construction Safety and Health Technician, Occupational Safety and Health Technician, Certified Industrial Hygienist).
- Experience: A qualified candidate must have extensive experience in the safety and/or construction field and 10 years of experience as a safety manager, safety engineer, or safety professional. Experience managing a safety process or extensive experience in a formal safety position or project management would be essential.
- Skills: Independent judgment, excellent organizational and time management skills, and the flexibility to coordinate multiple projects are necessary skills for this position. A qualified candidate will also possess excellent communication, leadership, supervisory skills and ability to speak in front of large audiences. A Regional Safety Manager candidate must be proficient on the computer and be able to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Power Point (Access beneficial). Analytical and interpretative ability is desirable. Individual must be detailed and accurate when preparing reports. Candidate must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- Technology: Candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and have the ability to learn additional software. Training will be provided on company standards.
