Fleet Equipment Mechanic

Location: onsite at GM CCA facility in Swartz Creek, MI

Position Summary

Skilled mechanic responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on industrial equipment and fleet vehicles including forklifts (electric and LP), aerial lifts, personnel carriers, and automobiles/trucks. Diagnoses, disassembles, and overhauls electrical systems, motors, drive systems, and other assemblies with minimal supervision. Personal tools are not required for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose vehicle failures and perform disassembly, repair, and reassembly of components
  • Execute preventative maintenance and safety inspections on fleet vehicles
  • Respond to service calls and emergency repair requests
  • Maintain accurate vehicle service records and documentation
  • Repair and maintain all fleet equipment to operational standards
  • Complete daily checklists and pre-trip inspections
  • Document all maintenance activities and parts usage
Physical Requirements

Position requires various physical movements including lifting, pinching, bending, reaching, climbing, and manipulating objects and equipment.

Required Skills
  • Minimum 18 years of age (21+ if CDL required)
  • Pass drug screening and background check
  • Pass validated selection test
  • Mechanical knowledge of industrial equipment
  • Experience repairing forklifts including propane fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and pallet jacks
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and brake systems
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance programs
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with computer instrumentation and diagnostic equipment
  • Proficiency with desktop computers, hand-held devices, and laptop computers
  • Knowledge of manufacturing standards and current technology
  • Experience with electronics and electrical systems
  • Heavy truck repair experience (tractor-trailers, brakes, tires, engines)
  • Light truck and van repair experience
  • Knowledge of internal combustion and diesel engines
  • CDL license
  • Formal automotive or heavy equipment training/certification
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Commitment to safety protocols and procedures
