Job Summary

***This is a limited part-time 37.5% position with an End Date: 3 months from start date.

Works on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

This position involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data to advance equity-focused healthcare interventions. Under supervision, the Research Data Analyst will design and conduct research studies, including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, and analyzing collected information using established statistical methods. Based on findings, the analyst will develop recommendations, prepare reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate results, while contributing to peer-reviewed publications and scholarly outputs.

The incumbent will support:

  • Development and execution of two scoping literature reviews
  • Screening ~1300 journal articles and editing the inclusion/exclusion criteria as we reconcile differences
  • Interview scheduling, note-taking, and qualitative data management
  • Coding and thematic analysis of qualitative data
  • Preparation of scholarly outputs (conference abstracts, manuscripts)
  • Administrative and research infrastructure support (e.g., IRB submissions, tracking progress)

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $69,000 - $100,200 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest and most complex departments in the School of Medicine. The department is comprised of 19 divisions employing over 400 faculty, 83 fellows, 84 residents, 31 Post Docs and non faculty academics and 170 staff. The Department has annual clinical income from inpatient and outpatient activities totaling over $90 million and annual extramural funding (contracts and grants) exceeding $40 million. The department ranks 17th in the nation among Pediatric departments for funding from the National Institutes of Health.

The Department's clinical enterprise is based at the 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco, the 191-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Mount Zion, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, and at a number of outreach clinics throughout Northern California, providing the Department with an unsurpassed opportunity to meet the needs of infants, children, and young adults throughout the Bay Area. In 2019, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals ranked in all 10 children's specialties in U.S. News and World Report.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Working knowledge of research function
  • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures
  • Working skills in analysis and consultation
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
