Job Summary
This position is a member of the manufacturing plant leadership team. It oversees aerosol and/or liquid manufacturing at the Spectrum Brands Vinita Park plant and reports directly to the site Senior Director of Manufacturing. The position will lead people and activities in the plant to achieve supply chain success. It will own supply chain targets including service, cost, productivity, quality, NPD (New Product Development)/EPD (Existing Product Development) start-up, safety health environmental, and employee engagement. This role will inspire, develop, and lead the manufacturing team to implement and sustain supply chain and category strategies including those in safety, quality, world class manufacturing, employee relations, performance management and development of talent. As a critical member of the site leadership team, lead the development and sharing of best practices across the network and works across silos to deliver the supply chain KPI's. Direct reports include area supervisors, plant engineers, and maintenance personnel who manage a seasonal business that runs 24/7 in season and reduced schedules in the off season with a team of 100 to 200 hourly technicians, production employees, quality technicians, and temporary workers. Responsibilities include leading safety, quality, ensuring attainment of production schedule and achievement of KPIs through continuous improvement efforts and the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- As a member of the plant leadership team, develop plans to support the 3-year strategic growth plan of the Home & Garden business.
- Responsible for increasing production, assets capacity, and flexibility, while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining quality standards.
- Model the Spectrum Brands values to achieve service excellence, meet and exceed organizational objectives and support fiscal responsibility.
- Lead Tier Lean Process to improve daily performance and meet or exceed KPIs.
- Ensure training standards are developed and in place and for all major activities in the area including new operator training, temporary employee training, one-point lessons, JSA (job safety analysis), quality control procedures, etc.
- Foster a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion where team members thrive.
- Prepare and maintain operational budgets and resource requirements.
- Optimize production flow, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, manage staffing issues, and monitor production orders and schedules.
- Develop new and improved manufacturing processes needed to manufacture new products, and improve existing processes to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Always strive to improve costs without sacrificing quality or safety.
- Manage the manufacturing functions in the plant to ensure on-time production and shipment of conforming products.
- Minimize accidents and lost time injuries by creating a positive attitude amongst staff for safety, and providing prompt and effective action to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions as they become apparent.
- Facilitate good communication and foster a team approach to problem solving.
- Develop and recommend improvement plans concerning equipment, facilities, operations, and staffing.
- Develop plans to improve adherence to high product quality standards and production fill rates.
- Continually monitor results achieved in relation to planned goals and undertake necessary corrective action to achieve the desired results.
- Work with Corporate and Plant level Quality and Regulatory groups to develop and implement Quality systems to ensure outgoing products meet customer standards.
- Develop and maintain a favorable employee relations environment and work with staff members on their personal growth and development goals to ensure employees feel encouraged and motivated to contribute at their full potential.
- Accountable for the financial performance of all groups and areas managed. Ensure compliance with budgets and effectively communicate positive and negative variances.
- Maintain and improve area level cleanliness and organization.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities and seeks out ways to reduce cost.
- Ensure that products made within the plant are produced in accordance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles across multiple production units.
Education and Experience Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related degree
- 10+ years of management experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong preference for candidates that have worked at a CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) company
- High speed aerosol and/or liquid filling experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with using technology associated with filler and packaging lines
- Lean manufacturing experience
- ERP experience

- Ability to comprehend financial reports including budgetary guidelines, manufacturing labor and material standards, and project expenditures.
- Ability to delegate and assign work, problem solve, answer questions and evaluate performance.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and interact with maturity and professionalism with subordinates, peers, superiors and external organizations including, but not limited to, customers and governmental agencies.
Work Environment
Role Location: On-site, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM CST (core work hours) Relocation Assistance: May be provided for eligible candidates.
