Summary:
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Essential Functions: Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
-Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

Master's Degree Physician Assistant required

Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required

Experience
2 years of experience as a PA required preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Independently manage ambulatory patients in the Severe Asthma Program (four half-day clinics per week).
  • Collaborate with physicians, social workers, and program managers to ensure continuity of care and smooth care transitions.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for patients and families, ensuring clarity of care plans and next steps.
  • Help plan, develop, and optimize clinic operations, including supporting EPIC workflows for quality patient care.

Research Responsibilities

  • Support clinical trials and research protocols, including evaluating and recruiting participants, obtaining consent, and conducting patient assessments.
  • Administer investigational therapies (including parenteral medications as required).
  • Review study data quality, participate in adjudication processes, and ensure safety, quality and good clinical practices are maintained.
  • Collaborate on study design, grant proposals, and IRB protocols, with the opportunity to contribute to publications.
  • Assist lab manager in mentoring, supervising, and evaluating research coordinators to maintain high standards of study conduct.
  • Assist in the administrative management of the Asthma Research Center.

Education & Leadership

  • Precept PA students and serve as an educational resource for trainees and staff.
  • Participate in continuing education, departmental committees, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Educate lay and/or professional groups through lectures, papers, publications, and other materials.
  • Contribute to clinical and program development by helping define goals, objectives, and new initiatives.
