Student Wellness & Health Promotion

Job Summary

Establish and oversee a framework for building and advancing a student-centered, forward-thinking approach to providing a fully comprehensive health education and wellness program to address various health needs of university students. Collaborate with cross-functional areas and academic departments to implement this vision and strategy. Serve as a member of the AVP's senior leadership team and provide functional day-to-day oversight of the Student Wellness office, including supervision of staff and budgetary oversight. This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA 's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT). SALT members lead and foster staff engagement, are knowledgeable of issues that impact the Division, and collaborate with one another. SALT members lead and foster creative thinking while championing innovative programs that impact student success
  • Foster a welcoming university community and promote equity for all students. Attend events/programs/activities that are sponsored by other departments within or by the Division that include/do not include their own department several times each semester
  • Integrate the vision/plan for Student Wellness and Health Promotions into the campus community, via strategic campus collaborations and partnerships
  • Supervise and coach SWHP staff, wellness ambassadors, peer educators, and peer mentors in the development, implementation, and assessment of student'centered, wellness programming across all campuses of Georgia Southern University
  • Develop, promote, and maintain a comprehensive, evidence-based vision/plan of wellness culture at Georgia Southern University that leads to the development and prioritization of program goals
  • Oversee all operations of SWHP, including, but not limited to: all aspects of personnel management; preparation and oversight of departmental budgets; preparation of operational reports; assessment of campuswide student wellness needs; development and assessment of departmental programs/initiatives
  • Direct the development, implementation, and assessment of a campus-wide wellness strategic plan for students that aligns with divisional and university strategic priorities, and when possible, supports the academic curriculum
  • Maintain department's alignment with industry standards (E. G. ACHA Framework (American College Health Association), relevant accrediting agencies), Student Affairs strategic plan, and Georgia Southern's strategic plan
  • Oversee the collection of data and reporting for the EDGAR Report, and other university wellness related reports, as assigned
  • Maintain active participation in relevant professional organizations to ensure awareness of national trends in college student wellness and health promotion


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Masters Degree in public health, health promotion, policy, or education, social or behavioral sciences, nursing or related field

Required Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of program planning, health programming, and strategy implementation experience
  • Supervision experience

Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree in public health, health promotion, policy or education, social or behavioral sciences, nursing or related field

Preferred Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of program planning, health programming, and strategy implementation experience (internship and academic experience may apply)
  • Knowledge and experience with assessment and evaluation of health and wellness programs
  • Knowledge and experience working with higher education budgets


Proposed Salary

$75,000 - $80,000

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
