Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick offers a Medical Assistant Apprentice position through a collaborative partnership between MaineHealth and Southern Maine Community College (SMCC).

Our next cohort is expected to begin February 2026. Your orientation for SMCC is February 13, 2026. Your start date with MaineHealth will be February 16, 2026.

The program includes:

* One 8-hour classroom day per week at SMCC's Brunswick campus. This will be held on Friday's.

* 24 hours per week of on-the-job training in one of our ambulatory physician practices

* Compensation for on-the-job training (24 hours), class time (8 hours) and independent study (8 hours), totaling full-time hours

Participants in the program receive full-time pay and benefits, including health insurance and PTO accrual. The current pay rate is $18.36/hour.

If you are hired by MaineHealth, we will work with SMCC to ensure your enrollment into the 9-month program. Apprentices are assigned to a primary practice location but may have opportunities to observe in other practices later in the program.


Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Active enrollment and advancement with a grade of C or better in an approved Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program required.
  2. License/Certifications: Current BLS certification required or must be obtained prior to clinical training. NH Med Tech License is required for those positions located in New Hampshire.
  3. Experience: N/A

  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A
