Job Summary

Under general direction of the Director/Manager of Plant Operations, or their liaison, coordinator of Senior Boiler Engineers, Senior Operating Engineers, Operating Engineers, Relief Engineers and other support staff in the operation, maintenance, installation and repair of the utility, production, and distribution systems in a safe, effective, and efficient manner in response to or in support of customer needs. In addition, functions as a Special Project coordinator by performing system analysis and monitoring and/or coordinating the activities of contracted service or construction companies as they perform their services by coordinating PM scheduling, utility interruptions, etc. Responsible for installing and maintaining dust barrier when performing job duties.
Must fill out completed work orders and/or daily time sheets and turn them in daily. Monitors and maintains required supplies and tools in a neat and orderly fashion insuring that proper inventory is maintained, tools are functioning properly and readily accessible and that the work/production areas are in a clean and neat manner as evidenced by management or regulatory observation. Notify management of needed supplies in a timely manner by filling out material request forms.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in coordinating, scheduling, and reviewing departmental records to assure regulatory compliance for items such as PM's Medical gas Systems, utility Production and Distribution systems.

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and follow-up of the preventative maintenance program for the Utility Production and distribution systems.

  • Assists as the departmental liaison to facilitate review, construction and implementation of Utility Production and Distribution Systems as required by Corporation in support of the Construction Services Department or contracted Architectural/Engineering Firms.

  • Assists as the departmental liaison with outside service companies in the performance and oversight of their services.

  • Assists the manager in the development of departmental schedules and the procurement of needed supplies, tools, and equipment.

  • Serves as a commissioning and in-service teacher to train other trades personnel during the commissioning of newly constructed or renovated areas, yearly in-service, new hires.

  • Investigates/recommends and follows up on major Utility Production and Distribution Systems issues to assure efficient and effective operation.

  • Assists in the coordination and scheduling of major utility production and distribution interruptions to assure minimum patient discomfort.

  • Maintains flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of assigned workload and adherence to standards of quality control.

  • Review and evaluates existing methods, systems, programs, practices, and procedures, develops, and recommends changes to the Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance. Implements or guides implementation of new and/or modifies methods, systems, programs, practices and/or procedures.

  • Maintains adequate inventory of materials, equipment, supplies, and initiates requisitions as needed.

  • Works with Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance in the coordination of minor construction and renovations.

  • Assigns and distributes work to staff.

  • Established and coordinates employee work schedule to assure necessary staff coverage.

  • Orients and trains new employees and provide continuing guidance and on-the-job training to all assigned personnel.

  • Reviews and writes specifications for corrective maintenance and minor construction and renovation projects.

  • Reviews existing department policies and procedures, modifies and enforces.

  • Reviews and enforces the quality standards of the mechanical rooms as set forth by management.

Range of Pay
  • Pay starting between $33.24 and $40.45, based on experience

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree High School graduate or equivalent with technical training in stationary engineering.

  • 5 years of relevant experience 5 to 7 years of documented lead work experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of utility production and distribution systems in a 1,000,000 sq. ft commercial, industrial or institution facility 2,000 tons or greater and with a boiler plant of 40,000 lbs./hr. steam capacity or greater.

  • LIC- City of Dearborn Chief Engineer license
