The Center for Rural Energy Security (CRES) Job Description
The Sr. Research Project Analyst helps lead CRES's policy-related research activities to inform policy makers, regulators, local government leaders, and industry leaders on the implications of federal and state energy policy and technology innovation for rural America. The position requires conducting technically sound and objective analysis of energy policy issues, helping develop and mentor a team of research associates, and preparing research reports, policy briefs, white papers, and other publications to disseminate research to government, industry, and public audiences. This role provides opportunities to seek external funding to support expanding research efforts and is intended for candidates with the potential to become recognized experts in applied energy economics and policy analysis. Monday-Friday; 7:30-4:30 or 8:00-5:00 Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree or higher in economics, agricultural economics, applied statistics, political science, public administration, or a similar research-oriented and quantitative field. 4-5 years' experience independently conducting economic, energy, or policy research and analysis, preferably related to rural communities, agricultural production, or rural economic development. Ability to effectively communicate research concepts, outcomes, and policy implications with varied groups of interested stakeholders and media, both written and verbally. Experience writing grants for federal, state, and private philanthropic funding agencies. Excellent quantitative empirical analysis skills and familiarity coding in STATA, R, and Python. An ability to work collaboratively with academic scholars across social and physical science disciplines. Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,915.20 - $73,008.00 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements. The Center for Rural Energy Security (CRES) was established at the University of Missouri in Spring 2025 to create a nationally recognized, multidisciplinary energy policy research institute that provides unbiased policy research with a focus on the implications of federal and state energy policy and of technological innovation for rural communities, agriculture, and economic development. Under the leadership of both the College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources and the College of Arts & Science, CRES's mission is to generate scholarly research that informs policy decision making and to educate policy makers and the public by producing accessible research reports, policy white papers, and media presentations.
