Overview

The Operating Supervisor will plan, coordinate, and oversee the day-to-day operations of Tunnel Maintenance mechanics and Engineering Inspectors as well as contractors to ensure that activities are conducted in a safe and productive manner that complies with all Federal, State and Company regulations and procedures and is consistent with the Company's commitment to Environment, Health and Safety excellence.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Responsible for first line supervision of weekly employees and contractors performing maintenance and capital work in the Companys eight utility tunnels.
  • Maintain accurate Company and contractor records and ensure that the results of mandated inspections and maintenance programs are updated in the Gas Work Management System/GEMs daily.
  • Ensures employee training is in compliance and conducts periodic safety talks, daily job briefings and HASP reviews to ensure the safety of all employees and contractors.
  • Periodically accompany crews on inspections to verify work quality and ensure housekeeping is maintained.
  • Ensure personnel and contractors comply with all EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Provide Contractor and Employee Field Oversight and complete required reports.
  • Ensures implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees and contractors whose work is directed. Ensures that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure contractors and other Company departments perform and adhere to safety and security procedures.
  • Complete all required accidents, incidents, injuries, security, etc. reports.
  • Must fulfill the requirements of Operator Qualification within 1 year.
  • Must be willing to participate on the Emergency Duty Schedule and be prepared to respond on off-hours and/or weekends when emergencies arise.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of fulltime relevant work experience
  • or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of fulltime relevant work experience
  • or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of fulltime relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Knowledge of the gas, electric and steam transmission and distribution systems. Required
  • General knowledge of structural steel replacement. Required
  • General knowledge of reading and understanding detailed engineering drawings. Required
  • Must have knowledge of pumps, fans, motors and electrical equipment. Required
  • Must possess knowledge of Corporate Safety and Environmental Procedures. Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: Must fulfill the requirements of Operator Qualification within 1 Year Required
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
  • Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within the service territory as needed.
  • Must be able to work occasional extended hours due to organizational needs.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb ladder and stairs for a whole shift; depths of up to 260ft.
