HJF is seeking a Senior Communications Program Manager to support and manage internal and external communications to include researching and writing content for print and online communications vehicles, i.e., newsletters, news articles for the public website, and web content.

This position will be in support of PRS-Vice President of External Affairs.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Leads the development and implementation of the CHAMP strategic communications plan to elevate CHAMP pillars.
  • Oversees the communications function, including editing, creative (graphic artists and multimedia specialists), social media and digital management teams.
  • Spearheads communications for external summits and conferences.
  • Directs CHAMP's social media strategy across its suite of platforms as well provide social media expertise and analyses to include in grants and partnership agreements.
  • Ensures the communications and outreach budget (including digital/social media advertising, in-person exhibits expenses, and printing/shipping is efficiently used.
  • Oversees the production and dissemination CHAMP annual report.
  • Ensures compliance with DoD and USU external communication regulations in CHAMP branding, newsletters, and facilitating media interview
  • Provides communications with international program partners.
  • Proofreads and edits various documents. Attends and takes notes minutes at meetings.
  • Coordinates meetings nationally and internationally, takes minutes, and facilitates action plans.
  • Assists directors with putting together presentations, editing speeches.
  • Provides communications with external stakeholders through social media.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on the following: disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have outstanding writing and oral communication skills.
  • Keen ability to distill complex ideas and scientific information into language appropriate for a lay audience.
  • Strong interpersonal, research and interview skills.
  • Must have sharp editorial, proofreading and organizational skills.
  • Advanced computing and Web skills (familiarity with MS Office Suite, HTML, etc.).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust security clearance.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $105,800-$111,664.51. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
