The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

As a Military and Veterans Benefits Specialist, you will help military-affiliated students access and manage their education benefits accurately and on time so they can stay focused on completing their degree.

What You'll Do
  • Administer and coordinate military and veterans education benefit programs in alignment with university policies and applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and distribute clear, accurate information to students about available military benefit programs and how to use them.
  • Prepare and submit monthly certifications of attendance and related invoices for new and continuing students.
  • Verify student eligibility, monitor enrollment changes, and update records to reflect the correct current entitlement.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between students and entities such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, state approving agencies, and other military organizations to research and resolve issues with claims, billing, and non-payment.
  • Maintain well-organized physical and virtual student files, including required forms, documentation, and communications, while protecting confidentiality.
  • Ensure payments and paperwork are processed accurately and on time, support departmental meetings and workshops, and complete additional projects and duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in financial aid or a similar customer service environment supporting students or customers in a regulated program.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing, entering, and reconciling student and payment information.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex benefit information in an accessible way.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist and support students, colleagues, and partners with patience, empathy, and a service mindset.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive student and benefit information appropriately.
Bonus Points if You Have
  • Direct experience working with VA education benefit programs or in a School Certifying Official capacity.
  • Experience serving military-connected students, veterans, or adult learners in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with student information systems, financial aid systems, or similar case-management tools.

Position & Application Details

Full-Time Regular Positions (classified as regular and working 40 standard weekly hours): This is a full-time, regular position (classified for 40 standard weekly hours) that is eligible for bonuses; medical, dental, vision, telehealth and mental healthcare; health savings account and flexible spending account; basic and voluntary life insurance; disability coverage; accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity supplemental coverages; legal and identity theft coverage; retirement savings plan; wellbeing program; discounted WGU tuition; and flexible paid time off for rest and relaxation with no need for accrual, flexible paid sick time with no need for accrual, 11 paid holidays, and other paid leaves, including up to 12 weeks of parental leave.
