Corporate Controller.
This is a permanent, onsite opportunity in Costa Mesa, CA. Salary expectations up to 150K. Summary The Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, financial controls, and reporting accuracy across multiple entities and states. This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned accounting professional who can own day-to-day accounting execution while building structure, enforcing controls, and ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting. The Controller plays a critical role in cash flow visibility, compliance, audit readiness, and executive decision support. This role is not purely strategic - it requires active involvement in the numbers. ________________________________________ Core Responsibilities 1. Accounting Operations & Close Management Own the full accounting function, including general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close across all entities Review and approve account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls ________________________________________ 2. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare and review consolidated financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements Provide variance analysis and financial insights to executive leadership Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning Ensure financial data is accurate, consistent, and decision-ready ________________________________________ 3. Compliance, Tax & Audit Support Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including California requirements Oversee sales/use tax, payroll tax, and multi-state compliance coordination Partner with external tax advisors, auditors, and accounting firms Prepare audit schedules and documentation; support audits and regulatory reviews ___________________________________ 4. Payroll, Benefits & Intercompany Oversight Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, and accruals in coordination with Payroll and HR teams Ensure proper accounting for benefits, workers' compensation, and employer taxes Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and eliminations across entities ________________________________________ 5. Systems, Controls & Process Improvement Own accounting systems and workflows (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable accounting processes Strengthen internal controls to support growth, audit readiness, and risk mitigation Ensure documentation and SOPs are maintained and followed ________________________________________ 6. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff Partner with HR, Operations, Legal, and Executive teams to align financial practices with business needs Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for leadership Qualifications Required CPA or CMA designation Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller Assistant Controller responsibilities Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting Experience managing month-end close and multi-entity accounting Prior experience in multi-state, high-growth, or regulated environments ________________________________________ Strongly Preferred Experience supporting audits and working with external accounting firms Experience in cannabis, hemp, CPG, or other regulated industries ________________________________________ Skills & Competencies High attention to detail with strong organizational discipline Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance execution and oversight Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Clear communicator able to translate financial data for non-finance stakeholders Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments ________________________________________ What Success Looks Like Timely, accurate, and clean monthly financials Clear visibility into cash flow, liabilities, and intercompany activity Strong internal controls and audit readiness Scalable accounting processes that support continued growth Leadership confidence in financial data and reporting #LI-SK1 The base pay range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to offer for this role.
