| Position Summary |
The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (
EHRA).
This position is responsible for planning and coordinating small construction and renovation projects, including the work of University trade shops and external contractors. The role provides direct supervision to the Move and Set-Up Crew, Small Project Managers, and the Mechanic Shop, and supports departmental representatives in the planning, scheduling, and completion of renovation projects.
The position directs staff in assessing departmental needs, developing cost estimates and materials lists, soliciting and evaluating informal bids, awarding informal contracts, and monitoring contractor performance. Duties include assigning projects, providing on-the-job training for new estimators, and reviewing completed work. In addition to these supervisory responsibilities, the employee performs the full range of duties associated with the Construction Estimator II classification and oversees fleet maintenance to ensure an efficient workflow. Work is performed with a high level of independence under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations.
The position requires advanced technical knowledge across multiple trade areas and the ability to develop mid- to long-range project plans, including alternative approaches to address changing conditions. The role must be able to manage multiple, complex construction and repair activities simultaneously, often involving several trades.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of: The North Carolina State Building Code; available building materials, their characteristics, and immediate and long-term costs; construction methods; structural components, electrical and mechanical systems of buildings. |
| Minimum Qualifications |

- Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in general facilities work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
