The Role and Team

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to design and build the next generation of our storage-as-a-service infrastructure. This role will primarily focus on developing a scalable block and object storage solution to meet Medallia's Cloud platform data requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Design and build the next generation storage as a service infrastructure, primarily focusing on building a scalable block and object storage solution to meet the data storage requirements for Medallia's Cloud platform.
  • Analyze and resolve performance issues related to the production storage layer within the cloud environment.
  • Help select and drive the underlying technology stack, implementing solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership and clarity for intricate projects and technology initiatives.
  • Collaborate with SRE, Network Infrastructure, Production Engineering, Product Engineering, and other teams to successfully drive complex projects.
  • Be a part of the on-call rotation to address and resolve critical production incidents.

Candidates based in the Pleasanton vicinity will be prioritized as this role is Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master/Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with NetApp ONTAP (FAS/AFF) or Pure Storage, managing S3-compatible object storage, deep proficiency in NFS (v3/v4.1) and block iSCSI/FC protocols.
  • Experience managing the physical lifecycle of hardware in a Colocation facility, including rack/stack, power circuit planning (A/B redundancy), and cabling standards (Fiber/DAC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Python or Ansible for automating storage provisioning, monitoring, and migration tasks via REST APIs.
  • Deep understanding of the Linux storage stack, shell scripting, and system administration.
  • Experience leading large-scale data migrations from legacy File/Block systems to Object Storage using tools like Rclone, BlueXP, or XCP.
  • Experience implementing data-at-rest encryption (NVE/NAE/SEDs) and managing multi-tenant IAM policies for S3 buckets.
  • Expertise in cloud design, particularly in the areas of virtualization, global infrastructure, distributed systems, load balancing, and security.
  • Familiarity with IaaC, observability (prometheus/graffana), GitOps, CI/CD, kubenetes/container orchestration.

Medallia is committed to equal pay and transparency. The annual base salary range for this position is $121,000 - $206,000. Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline and combines all of the distinct labor markets within the US. It is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors. Medallia considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, candidate's work location, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
