Wieland is hiring a Baler/Metal Mover Operator. The Baler/Metal Mover Operator will operate heavy equipment in compressing copper scrap of various shapes, and sizes into bales, in preparation for smelting. This position is located in Pine Hall, NC.

Starting Pay: $18.36 per hour

Schedule: 2-2-3 schedule (6:45pm-7:00am)

Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly

Baler/Metal Mover Operator Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
• Performs daily inspections of assigned equipment and submits documentation of inspection results to Supervisor.
• Operates forklifts, bobcats, backhoes and other equipment in preparation, compression into bales and staging of scrap copper prior to smelting.
• Assists with charging and other casting activities as required.
• Responsibilities include housekeeping duties throughout the department.

Baler/Metal Mover Operator Qualifications:

• Must successfully complete post hire training, if not currently employed.
• Ability to maintain good working relationship with all co-workers and to use good judgement in recognizing scope of responsibilities

• Must be able to perform firm grasping, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, standing, crouching, sitting, negotiating stairs, ladders, and slippery surfaces in a hot/cold (summer/winter) environment, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Work safely with, around, and wearing protection for cleaning chemicals, solvents, copper fumes, inks and lubricants.
• Must be able to work around the casting furnace which contains molten metal that is heated to 2150 degrees.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and operate a 70 lb. (and occasionally a 90 lb.) jackhammer with another employee. The jackhammer bar weighs between 50-75 lbs. Used 2-4 times per eight hour shift for approximately 10-15 minutes each time.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and use pipe wrenches, hammers, and various hand tools during adjustments, repairs, and replacement / change-out operations.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and control a pry bar (20 lbs.) during removal (prying, scraping, and striking) of copper build-up.
• Must be able to firmly grasp and use a slag hoe (50 lbs.) approximately once per shift for approximately 10-15 minutes.
• Must be able to operate Barko.
• Must be able to use a shovel during cleaning operations.
