About the Role

We are seeking a safetydriven, handson Assistant Maintenance Manager to support daily maintenance operations for our large hauling division in San Jose, CA. This role plays a key part in ensuring our fleet is safe, compliant, and ready to serve our customers each day.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure full compliance with Waste Connections' safety programs and standards.
  • Support a collaborative, teamoriented shop environment.
  • Oversee and assist with the training of Mechanics and PM Mechanics.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance across all applicable agencies and requirements.
  • Manage fleet inventory, parts ordering, and equipment maintenance processes.
  • Provide guidance to Mechanics on proper diagnostic and repair methods.
  • Schedule and assign work to shop personnel.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors for repairs when needed.
  • Roadtest or evaluate vehicles to diagnose issues and verify repairs.
  • Prepare purchase orders and source competitive pricing for parts and services.
  • Assist with monthly projections and support the annual budget process.
  • Maintain department costs within budgeted guidelines.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in truck, light equipment, or heavyequipment repair, including CNG engines (waste industry experience a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to train, coach, and motivate maintenance staff.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of DOT compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and solve problems efficiently.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in vehicle and equipment diagnosis and repair.
