Job Description

The Director, S2P Process, Platforms, Data & Insights is accountable for the business enablement backbone of Vertex's end-to-end Source-to-Pay operating model. This leader ensures that the processes, platforms, controls, data, and analytics supporting sourcing, contracting, third-party risk management, supplier onboarding, buying channels, and procure-to-pay operations are effective, scalable, measurable, and continuously improving.

This role is distinct from user experience, orchestration, transformation governance, supplier programs, and change management. Its mandate is to make procurement work: translating business needs into practical process designs, platform capabilities, control frameworks, data foundations, and decision-grade insights that support the broader S2P COE strategy.

The leader will partner closely with Sourcing, Procurement Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Digital Technology & Enablement (DTE), and business stakeholders to strengthen the performance, adoption, controls, and long-term maturity of the S2P ecosystem.

This is not a systems administration or reporting role. It is the senior business leader accountable for making S2P work through strong processes, platforms, controls, data foundations, insights, and digital readiness.

Key Responsibilities 1. S2P Process Ownership & Enablement
  • Serve as the business owner for core S2P execution processes across Source-to-Contract, Contract Lifecycle Management, Third-Party Risk Management, supplier onboarding, buying channels, and Procure-to-Pay.
  • Define and maintain practical process standards, business rules, documentation, decision models, and operating expectations that are usable by Procurement, business stakeholders, and enablement partners.
  • Identify sources of friction, duplication, manual work, control gaps, and inconsistent execution; lead continuous improvement efforts to simplify and standardize how work gets done.
  • Partner with process owners, Procurement Operations, Sourcing, Legal, Finance, and DTE to translate process needs into sustainable capabilities.
2. Digital Platforms & Capability Enablement
  • Act as the business-side owner for key S2P platforms and enabling technologies, including Coupa, Icertis, ProcessUnity, supplier information capabilities, and future S2P technologies.
  • Own business requirements, roadmap inputs, prioritization recommendations, release readiness, user acceptance testing, adoption implications, and value realization for platform enhancements.
  • Bridge business stakeholders and DTE to ensure technology design reflects business outcomes, policy intent, process needs, and user realities.
  • Represent S2P business process, controls, data, and platform requirements in enterprise ERP and major technology transformation initiatives, ensuring future-state designs support sourcing, contracting, supplier onboarding, buying channels, procurement operations, compliance, and reporting needs.
  • Ensure platform changes are implemented with appropriate process documentation, controls, communications, training inputs, and measurable success criteria.
3. Controls, Compliance & Operational Risk
  • Establish and maintain a scalable S2P controls framework embedded in processes, platforms, workflows, and reporting routines.
  • Partner with Finance, Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, DTE, and business stakeholders to strengthen preventive and detective controls while reducing avoidable user friction.
  • Apply controls thinking to sourcing, contracting, third-party risk, buying channels, supplier onboarding, purchase orders, invoice processes, policy adherence, and approvals.
  • Monitor control effectiveness and support audit readiness, remediation, issue management, and policy enablement activities.
4. Data Governance, Master Data & Taxonomy
  • Lead the business ownership model for S2P data foundations, including supplier data quality, taxonomy standards, data stewardship, reporting definitions, and data governance routines.
  • Partner with master data, analytics, DTE, Finance, and Procurement stakeholders to improve the quality, consistency, and reliability of procurement data.
  • Define metric logic and data requirements needed to support decision-making, compliance monitoring, performance management, AI enablement, and value realization.
  • Create a data foundation that enables trusted reporting, automation, and scalable digital capability development.
5. Analytics, Insights & Performance Management
  • Develop and mature an integrated S2P KPI and insights capability that moves the organization beyond activity reporting toward decision-oriented performance management.
  • Oversee executive scorecards, operational dashboards, value realization reporting, compliance reporting, cycle-time views, user experience metrics, supplier performance measures, and platform adoption insights.
  • Translate data into clear narratives that explain what changed, why it matters, where intervention is needed, and what actions should be taken.
  • Create consistent routines for scorecard reviews, dashboard refreshes, insight discussions, and follow-up actions.
6. AI, Automation & Digital Readiness
  • Identify automation, AI, and process intelligence opportunities that improve speed, guidance, accuracy, controls, decision support, and stakeholder experience across S2P.
  • Partner with DTE and business functions to build a practical pipeline of AI-enabled and automation opportunities grounded in strong process design and trusted data.
  • Ensure emerging capabilities are linked to measurable outcomes and integrated into the operating model rather than treated as standalone technology deployments.
  • Help prepare S2P capabilities for future digital advancement through disciplined data, process, control, and platform foundations.
Leadership Expectations
  • Thinks strategically while remaining grounded in practical execution.
  • Builds enterprise capabilities, not just reports, workarounds, or system fixes.
  • Connects process, technology, controls, data, analytics, and user experience into one coherent operating model.
  • Influences across Procurement, Finance, Legal, Compliance, DTE, and business stakeholders without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Challenges complexity and drives simplification while protecting compliance and business outcomes.
  • Uses insights to drive action, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develops talent and builds repeatable ways of working that scale beyond the individual.
Success Measures
  • Improved S2P process consistency, cycle time, and ease of execution.
  • Clearer platform roadmaps, stronger business requirements, and improved adoption of S2P capabilities.
  • Embedded controls that reduce risk without creating unnecessary friction.
  • Improved supplier, taxonomy, master data, and reporting data quality.
  • Greater stakeholder trust in S2P dashboards, KPIs, and executive insights.
  • More actionable performance management routines and value realization reporting.
  • Practical AI and automation opportunities identified, prioritized, and advanced with measurable business value.
  • Stronger partnership between Procurement business teams and DTE.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Deep understanding of end-to-end Source-to-Pay processes, including sourcing, contracting, third-party risk, supplier onboarding, buying channels, purchase orders, invoicing, and operational procurement.
  • Experience serving as a business owner or senior partner for enterprise procurement platforms, digital capability enablement, process design, controls, or data/analytics capabilities.
  • Ability to translate business needs into requirements, roadmaps, controls, metrics, and scalable operating models.
  • Strong analytical orientation with the ability to convert data into business narratives, actions, and leadership-level insights.
  • Experience partnering with technology, finance, legal, compliance, audit, procurement operations, sourcing, and business stakeholders.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with demonstrated ability to simplify complex processes and institutionalize better ways of working.
  • Curiosity and practical judgment around automation, AI, and emerging digital capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Technology, Finance, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, source-to-pay, supply chain, business process transformation, digital enablement, controls, data, analytics, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience influencing cross-functional teams, senior stakeholders, and technology partners in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with S2P platforms and enterprise technology transformation, such as Coupa, Icertis, ProcessUnity, ERP platforms, supplier management tools, analytics platforms, or comparable digital capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end S2P processes, including sourcing, contracting, third-party risk management, supplier onboarding, buying channels, purchase orders, invoicing, policy adherence, controls, and reporting.
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into practical process designs, business requirements, governance routines, controls, metrics, and scalable operating models.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and change leadership skills, with the ability to operate strategically while driving practical execution.
