This is an opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role shaping enrollment strategy and improving the student experience from application to enrollment.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Admissions & Enrollment Management, the Director will lead admissions strategy, oversee operational processes, and guide a team responsible for admissions processing, transfer credit evaluation, systems administration, and student communications. This leader will use data, technology, and strategic planning to strengthen enrollment outcomes and support student access and success.
Salary: $150,000-$160,000 (based on experience)
Location: Long Beach, CA - Monday-Friday, in office
Relocation: Relocation packages available

Cal State Long Beach, one of the largest universities in the CSU system, is located in Long Beach on a beautifully landscaped, 320-acre campus near the ocean and the thriving downtown area. The Office of Admissions plays a critical role in supporting the university's enrollment goals by managing the application and admissions process for tens of thousands of prospective undergraduate and graduate students each year. The team is responsible for reviewing applications, evaluating transfer credit, communicating admission decisions, and ensuring a smooth and equitable admissions experience for prospective students.
Admissions works closely with partners across Enrollment Services and the broader campus community to leverage data, technology, and strategic planning to support student access, success, and institutional enrollment priorities.

About the role:
California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Admissions to lead a dynamic team responsible for processing and managing more than 120,000 student applications annually. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Admissions & Enrollment Management, this position serves as a key member of the Enrollment Services leadership team and plays a critical role in shaping and executing the university's enrollment strategy.
The Director of Admissions will inspire and equip staff with the tools, systems, and vision needed to support an ambitious enrollment agenda. This leader will guide admissions strategy, oversee operational processes, and leverage data analytics and technology to strengthen enrollment outcomes and improve the student experience from application through matriculation. The successful candidate will also foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement while ensuring policies and practices align with institutional, CSU system, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Admissions Leadership
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic admissions plans aligned with the university's enrollment goals and broader strategic enrollment management plan.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the full lifecycle of admissions processing for domestic undergraduate and graduate applicants.
  • Analyze enrollment trends and data to inform decision-making and long-term admissions strategies.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to align admissions initiatives with institutional priorities and student success goals.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, CSU system, and university policies related to recruitment, admissions, and transfer credit evaluation.
Departmental Leadership and Operations
  • Provide overall leadership and management for the Admissions department, including teams responsible for admissions processing, credit evaluation, systems administration, counseling, residency determinations, and imaging/data processing.
  • Supervise and develop a team of managers and staff while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Oversee admissions decision processes including eligibility verification, appeals review, and admissions audits.
  • Monitor departmental performance and implement systems and processes that improve efficiency, accountability, and service quality.
  • Serve as a key escalation point for complex admissions decisions and policy interpretation.
Technology, Data, and Communications Strategy
  • Lead the strategic use of technology systems that support admissions operations, including CRM platforms and student information systems.
  • Partner with campus technology teams to enhance system functionality, data integrity, and process automation.
  • Utilize predictive analytics and enrollment data to guide operational planning and admissions strategies.
  • Develop and oversee communication strategies that ensure prospective and admitted students receive clear, timely information through multiple channels including email, web, and outreach campaigns.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communications, yield strategies, and enrollment campaigns to continuously improve engagement and conversion outcomes.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in admissions or enrollment management at a large and complex institution.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and leading operational units within admissions or enrollment services.
  • Strong knowledge of admissions policies, enrollment trends, and student information systems used in higher education.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience working within large public universities or multi-campus systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex enrollment data and translate insights into strategic actions.
  • Experience with student information systems, CRM platforms, and data analytics tools used in admissions operations.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, improve operational processes, and implement innovative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders across campus.
