As the Laboratory Technician you will play a vital role in developing, coordinating and executing technical activities at Mercury. You will serve as the primary technical resource for customers, performing process assessments, troubleshooting complex fluid and process challenges and leading to trials. This role collaborates closely with customers' onsite personnel to identify opportunities, drive innovation and enhance product performance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Serve as the primary technical resource for assigned customer sites, building strong relationships and providing responsive on-site support
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly concentration, pH, bacteria, and fungus testing according to defined schedules and plant conditions
  • Collect hydraulic, quench oil, and process samples, coordinate third-party laboratory analysis, and communicate results to appropriate stakeholders
  • Document all testing results accurately in Excel or required systems and distribute reports in a timely manner
  • Treat systems with biocides and fungicides as appropriate in consultation with plant management, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up testing
  • Conduct routine audits of concentration tracking charts and verify compliance with required machine-level testing schedules
  • Support preventative maintenance efforts by identifying assets due for service and performing required sample analysis
  • Perform comprehensive process assessments of machining and washing systems to identify improvement opportunities
  • Lead structured continuous improvement initiatives using PDCA methodology to enhance process stability, repeatability, and product performance
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production, quality, and engineering stakeholders to implement defined process improvements
  • Develop control plans and standardized procedures to sustain operational improvements
  • Train customer personnel on sampling procedures, system monitoring, and best practices for fluid management
  • Provide technical presentations, findings summaries, and progress updates to plant leadership and key stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, performance enhancement, and long-term cost savings within customer operations



Education:



  • College degree, preferably in chemistry or mechanical engineering


Experience and/or Training:



  • Industrial sales experience


License/Certification:



  • MLT, OMA


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate credibly with customers and internal teams
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within sales and operating systems
  • Excellent listening, reporting and presentation skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across all levels, including executive and engineering stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in building relationships across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to identify and drive process improvement opportunities


  • STLE CMFS certification
  • STLE OMA-1 or OMA-2 oil analysis certification
  • Experience with additives, base oils and formulation development
  • Experience leading customer technical seminars or product demonstrations



Physical, Mental, Environmental Demands:



  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting and climbing
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds
  • Continuous speaking and listening required for customer interactions
  • Frequent driving to customer sites and regional travel by automobile
  • Awareness of environmental conditions including mechanical shops, loud noises and slippery surfaces
  • Use of PPE such as face shields, ear plugs, safety shoes, safety goggles, gloves or hard hats when required
  • Work performed in customer facilities, laboratories and industrial settings
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, loud noise and mechanical equipment
  • Safety awareness always required in accordance with customer and site requirements
