Cleveland-Cliffshas an immediate opening for aLaboratory Supervisor in ourCleveland Workschemical laboratory.Thesuccessful candidate will combine strong technical and analytical skills with effective communication and leadership, ensuring safe,accurate, and reliable laboratory operations.This role includes supervising hourly union employees, supporting audit readiness,maintaininglaboratory equipment,developingand applying analytical methods, andcoordinating withoperations to providetimelyand reliable support for manufacturing.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

  • Supervise, train, schedule, and manage the safety ofhourly unionemployees.

  • Work effectively within a team environment using clear and effective communication skills.

  • Develop and implement processes to ensuretimelyandaccurateresults and drive continuous improvement.

  • Prepare for andparticipatein internal and external audits for Quality, Safety, and Environmental standards, includingIATF 16949 andISO 17025 accreditation through A2LA.

  • Develop analytical methods and apply ASTM and other agency test methods, including creating new test methods as needed.

  • Performtimelymaintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of laboratory, sample preparation, and testing equipment to ensure reliable support for manufacturing operations.

  • Createandmaintainwork instructions for laboratory procedures within the area of responsibility.

  • Manage inventory of laboratory chemicals and equipment spares within budgetary limits.

  • Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and external contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and services.

  • Acquire, install, and set up new equipment.

  • Perform other duties asrequiredto support business operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Technical Sciences or Engineeringsuch as Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials ScienceEngineeringor applicable relevant experienceie. experience in atomic emission spectroscopy (OES, XRF, ICP).

  • Supervisory experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Advanced computer skills andproficiencyin Microsoft Office products

  • Ability to thrive in a diverse and dynamic work environment.

  • Demonstrated success in problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemistry.

  • Supervisory experience within aheavy industryunionized environment

  • A2LA training.

  • Experience in atomic emission spectroscopy (OES, XRF, ICP).

  • Experience with LECO elemental analyzers (C, S, N, O).

  • Experienceworking in a unionized environment.

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $95,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based onnumerousfactors, including, but not limited to, relevanteducation, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
