Maintenance and Modernization has an opening for a highly motivated Non-Nuclear Field Test Engineer to support shipboard testing, troubleshooting, and technical execution of non-nuclear systems and components during submarine maintenance and overhaul periods.

Department 707 (D707) Non-Nuclear Repair & Construction Engineering team is a critical component of Electric Boat's Maintenance & Modernization organization. D707 provides non-nuclear engineering support for submarine maintenance, modernization, alteration, and repair activities to ensure the delivery of mission-ready submarines to the fleet.

The Non-Nuclear Field Test Engineer candidate will provide deck-plate engineering support for maintenance and modernization activities involving submarine non-nuclear systems. This role includes authoring Technical Work Documents (TWDs), executing and supporting testing activities, resolving emergent shipboard issues, and ensuring work is performed in accordance with applicable specifications and quality requirements.

This position requires both shipboard and office-based work and demands a proactive, safety-focused, and deadline-driven approach.

The Non-Nuclear Field Test Engineer supports testing and troubleshooting of:

Submarine Non-Propulsion Electronic Systems (NPES), including fire control, navigation, sonar, instrumentation, and associated electronic systems
  • Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) systems, including power distribution, control and indication systems, interior communications, fiber-optic data distribution, and electromechanical actuation

D707 Non-Nuclear Field Test Engineers routinely interface with Operations, Planning Yard, Design Engineering, Test organizations, Program Office personnel, and United States Navy (USN) stakeholders, including Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton (SOSG), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and submarine crews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide shipboard technical direction and real-time troubleshooting support
  • Conduct and support system testing and validation efforts
  • Ensure compliance with shipbuilding specifications, USN maintenance requirements, and contractual obligations
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering teams
  • Evaluate shipboard conditions and develop practical engineering solutions

Travel, overtime, and evening/weekend work may be required based on program needs.
