Machinery Maintenance Mechanic/Site Safety and Health Officer - Barksdale AFB - Bossier City, Louisiana

SUMMARY:

The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic repairs machinery or mechanical equipment. Serves as the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO). The SSHO is responsible for all O&M activities supported as part of work at the site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examining machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble, dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.
  • Replacing broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock and ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs.
  • Preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops, reassembling machines, making all necessary adjustments for operation, performing filter changes, performing oil changes and verifying equipment is properly cleaned (housekeeping).


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum requirements for this position include a High School Diploma or equivalent GED, plus a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience in performing machinery operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Resume or certificates demonstrating, for a minimum of the last five (5) years, (8) hours of formal safety and health related training per year. A detailed description is required for any training for which a certificate is not available.
  • Resume demonstrating five (5) years of continuous safety experience in supervising or managing general industry/construction/O&M, including managing safety programs or processes, or conducting hazard analyses and developing control.
  • 10-hr OSHA course training certificate or training card (or course completion certificate if within ninety (90) calendar days of having completed the training and card has not yet been issued)
  • Ongoing safety training and cross-training of electrical, piping, and welding will be required.
  • Must maintain a valid Idaho Driver's License and ability to maintain military gate pass access are required.

  • Knowledge of data conception, form, and spatial aptitude.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Skill in motor coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members. Ability to write reports. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees and customers.

REASONING ABILITY:

Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally be required to lift more than 50 pounds. The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.


Pay Rate: $32.17 p/hour, plus an additional $1.00 p/hour when performing SSHO duties

Hourly Fringe: $4.93 p/hour

A Background Check and Drug Screen will be performed for this position.
