Facility Support Attendant
Summary: Performs general housekeeping, prepares setups for meetings, classes, and Garden events. This position also performs light maintenance duties and assists in keeping all assigned Garden areas neat and clean. The department provides housekeeping services 16 hours a day/7 day a week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs general daily maintenance and housekeeping duties that include but are not limited to the following areas: restrooms, offices, conference areas, lunchrooms, Garden grounds, statues, and outside fixtures, walls, and furniture, and maintains all types of floor surfaces.
- Performs tasks as assigned, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, window washing, emptying trash, and other duties as necessary to assist in ensuring that all Garden areas are well-kept and in excellent condition.
- Works in conjunction with the Events Department to provide accurate and timely set-ups.
- Set up daily Work Orders for classes, conferences, and meetings scheduled in Garden buildings.
- Assists with Stage setup for Garden Events.
- Nonelectrical equipment installation and repair, including soap/sanitizer, air freshening dispensers, etc.
- Assembles furniture and small equipment such as stanchions, tables, chairs, tents, etc.
- Inspects inside and outside areas to identify if any safety repairs are needed. Report any safety issues to your supervisor.
- Ensures that all recycling, e-compost, and landfill materials are placed in the appropriate containers before pick up.
- Performs special cleaning projects such as shampooing carpets, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning the Chihuly Chandelier, shampooing desk chairs, and vacuuming vents.
- Operates all Garden equipment in a safe, responsible manner, maintains general care of tools and equipment at all times. Refers more serious problems to the supervisor.
- Requires frequent operation of Garden vehicles such as Cushman golf carts, F150, or other similar vehicles.
- Adheres to all safety standards and promptly documents any safety concerns.
- Reports all accidents, injuries, and near-miss accidents immediately to your supervisor.
- Maintains work golf cart in an organized manner, i.e. check gas, tire pressure, and oil, and cleans it out after each use.
- Maintains janitor closets in an organized fashion at all times, ensuring that they are continuously stocked with supplies.
- Assists other departments as requested by the supervisor.
- Works with volunteers and other staff to take down Garden displays (i.e., Glow, Japanese Festival, BOMM, and Chinese Culture Days).
- Behaves & communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork, cooperation, and respect within our division and throughout the Garden with all employees, supervisors/managers, volunteers, visitors , and others.
- Consistently arrives to work on time. They should arrive at department meetings and appointments prepared and on time, positively representing the Garden.
- Meets expected attendance guidelines.
- Follows and adheres to established policies and procedures, including but not limited to Employee Handbook, Garden Safety Guidelines, and Department Policies.

- Minimum of (1) year relevant workplace experience.
- Ability to read any special instructions and to understand labels on cleaning products.

- The Garden is committed to the safety and well-being of our employees, volunteers, and guests. All staff are strongly encouraged to receive all vaccinations as recommended by their healthcare provider prior to the hiring date. When international travel is necessary for the Garden business, staff must be able to obtain the required travel clearances, driving permits, and vaccinations for all countries where travel is required.

- Familiarity with navigating through various PC applications, including but not restricted to Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to use e-mail to communicate with Garden staff to answer questions and service their needs.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have the ability to pass a background screening and motor vehicle report (MVR) to meet minimum insurance underwriting criteria.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs with the use of equipment if necessary (i.e., load, unload, and move supplies, medium to heavy tools and equipment).
- May be required to perform tasks at varying heights (i.e., climb ladders, etc.)
- Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching for extended periods of time-- 90% or more of the workday is spent standing on feet.
- Ability to learn the proper and safe use of buffers/shampoo equipment to clean floors if assigned.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Demonstrated dependability and adherence to all safety regulations.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (i.e., in temperatures over 100F as well as temperatures below 0F, in rain, snow, and other inclement weather conditions as needed).
- Actively works hands-on with other Garden employees, at times, to complete simple maintenance tasks.
- Comfortable working in immediate proximity to the general public, in a safe and friendly manner, answering questions regarding Garden facilities.
Contacts with Individuals/Organizations inside/outside the Garden:
- May interact with Garden employees, visitors, vendors, and donors.
Supervisor: Manager, Facility Support Service and/or Supervisor, Facility Support Service. During weekend or evening shifts, a Sr. Facility Support Attendant may serve as a supervisor for this role.
