Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is looking to immediately hire a full-time employee to assist in maintaining our machine shop. The selected candidate will gain tremendous experience working in a machine shop and will be responsible for cleaning and deburring machined parts, operating a laser etching machine for part marking, lubricating equipment, performing minor maintenance, and ensuring an organized and clean work environment. They will assist machine shop personnel wherever needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains the machine shop's laser etching machine for part marking
  • May assist the Machine Shop Supervisor in establishing machine maintenance schedules and ordering and organizing shop supplies
  • Maintains an organized and clean working environment in machine shop

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to understand and follow important safety procedures
  • Capable of reading and comprehending blueprints
  • Self-sufficient and able to work without immediate supervision
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or other U.S. person

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to perform physical activities which require considerable use of arms, legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting (approximately 50 lbs.), balancing, walking, stopping and handling of materials
  • Ability to utilize hearing or reasonable accommodation to diagnose audible machine issues (i.e., pitch change, valve closure, end mil break, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize visual acuity or reasonable accommodations and finger dexterity to work with small parts
