Position Summary

St. Louis CITY SC is seeking a Sports Science Intern to support the club's First Team Performance Department in the daily monitoring of player workload, performance, and recovery. This role will assist with athlete monitoring technologies, performance testing, and training operations within the first team environment.

The intern will gain hands-on experience working with elite athletes and industry-leading performance technologies while contributing to the daily workflow of a professional soccer performance department.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist with the daily setup, distribution, and collection of STATSports GPS units for training sessions and matches

* Support the collection and organization of training load and athlete monitoring data

* Assist performance staff with VALD performance testing (e.g., NordBord, ForceDecks, ForceFrame) as part of ongoing player monitoring

* Download, organize, and maintain performance datasets within the club's athlete monitoring systems

* Support the preparation of training load summaries and performance reports for staff review

* Assist with training session setup, recovery equipment, and performance technology management

* Maintain organization and upkeep of performance equipment and monitoring systems

* Contribute to performance projects or data organization initiatives as directed by performance staff

Qualifications

Required:

* Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sport Science, or related field

* Strong interest in applied sports science within elite team sport

* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar data management tools

* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred:

* Experience working with GPS athlete monitoring systems (STATSports, Catapult, etc.)

* Familiarity with VALD performance testing systems

* Experience in a high-performance or team sport environment

* Experience with Tableau, R-Suite, Python etc.

Additional Requirements:

* Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and matchdays

* Ability to lift and transport performance equipment (up to 30 lbs)

* Ability to handle sensitive athlete performance data with discretion

* Strong communication and ability to work within a multidisciplinary performance staff
