JOB SUMMARY

We seek a Technical Application Engineer - Protection provides pre- or post-sales technical field engineering, product demonstration, and training support to potential and existing Doble customers. This role provides technical expertise on Doble protection hardware and software, testing relays and protection schemes, and training. Technical Application Engineer will support market research and product development input to Solutions Managers. Technical Application Engineers will have the opportunity to publish technical articles and participate in various technical conferences sponsored by Doble and other industry organizations. Engineers at Doble have the potential to become nationally and internationally renowned experts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Provides pre- and post-sales, technical, and training support on the operation and application of Doble protection hardware and software to potential and existing customers
  • Proficiency in Doble protection equipment and software, including F6, F8, Manta, Protection Suite, RTS, 61850 TesT
  • Supports the Regional Sales Managers in demonstrating Doble protection hardware and software to potential customers
  • Prepares test plans for various models of protection relays, meters, transducers, and control devices and systems for use in various Doble software applications. This includes using worksheets and programming scripts to make them reusable and automated
  • Provide training to customers on testing techniques and applications of Doble protection hardware and software solutions
  • Provide support to Solutions Managers in the testing of Doble software and hardware
  • Provide support to Solutions Managers in the development and revision of manuals
  • Author papers for Doble conferences
  • Assist in providing technical expertise for research and development projects
  • Provide support to other engineers in the department or other departments within the company
  • Participate in conferences/trade shows and other company-sponsored events, including committee meetings, general sessions, user group meetings, and meetings with clients
  • Continuously work to upgrade skills concerning computers, software, test theory, test equipment operation, apparatus operation and training presentations, in accordance with ISO 9001 Standard Operating Procedures
  • Act as a "Doble representative" and advocate for Doble and Doble's customers
  • Related duties as assigned by the Regional Sales Director, or Regional Sales Managers
  • Matrixed organization reporting into Manager, Technical Application Engineering


Communications & Analytics



  • A solid commitment to customer service is a fundamental requirement
  • Communicate customer needs effectively to Doble management within the Technical Application Engineering Dept, Solutions Management, including product specifications, pricing, and competitive intelligence gained in the field
  • Present Doble products, services and solutions at seminars, conferences and trade shows to industry influencers
  • Write technical papers, application notes, guides on topics related to Doble products and services
  • Collaborate with other departments (primarily Engineering, Client Service Engineering and Marketing) and all individuals to facilitate positive working relationships with all internal and external Doble stakeholders
  • Support new product development and current product enhancement via incorporation of customer feedback
  • Provide support in testing new product feature sets, and software evaluation to improve overall product quality
  • Report existing issues via established software bug-logging system and more comprehensive Doble-wide system
  • Provide on-site support and services; provide remote support via email, telephone and web-based solutions
  • Provide customer issue resolution to issues with existing products via the methods described above
  • Provide basic language support via term extraction from manuals, guides, brochures and other product literature
  • Participate in Doble Spring Conference technical sessions, writing and/or delivering at least one paper and/or presentation during the week to conference participants
  • Complete Level 1 Technical Application Engineering training across complete Doble product/service portfolio
  • Complete Level 2 / Level 3 Technical Application Engineering training for core product focus area
  • Serve in a train-the-trainer role internally for other Doble employees to understand various products
  • Serve as a trainer of various Doble products to the Sales teams and Channel Partners
  • Proven ability to manage time, priorities, travel, and company requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

MS Engineering (or equivalent) (++)

PE License in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) (+++)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:



  • S. Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience in the field of electric power engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the electrical power industry, particularly in protective relay testing.
  • Ability to test any protection devices, from simple electromechanical relays, meters, transducers, and control devices to complex numerical multifunction protection and automation devices and systems, protection schemes based on IEC61850
  • Knowledge of communication Network Technologies
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must enjoy teaching and relating ideas or concepts to individuals with varied levels of experience
  • Must have the ability to express ideas clearly in both written, oral, and developing new media communications
  • Must have the ability to listen carefully.
  • Must have excellent time management skills to work in a remote environment
  • Must always have a professional demeanor both with all stakeholders, both internal and external to Doble
  • Must have a strong balance of product and service orientation
  • Must demonstrate superior skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Proven project management skills and ability to meet critical deadlines while managing multiple priorities
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to obtain a valid Visa to any country required for Doble fieldwork
  • Domestic and international travel required (50%); this level can vary throughout the year due to customer demand


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):



  • Worked for a US company is helpful
  • Familiarity with Doble products is preferred

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds. Must use assistance when lifting 50 pounds or more.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.
