JOB SUMMARY

A Project Estimator at Doble Engineering is responsible for reviewing engineering release packages and translating them into detailed manufacturing work scopes that support production execution. This role serves as the key link between engineering and manufacturing by breaking down complex engineering documentation into clear production tasks, labor estimates, and manufacturing sequences. The position works closely with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to ensure engineering designs are fully understood and properly prepared for manufacturing. By accurately defining work scope and estimating required labor and resources, this role helps ensure efficient production flow, accurate scheduling inputs, and successful on-time delivery of products. This position is located at Doble's Accident, Maryland facility and it reports to the Director of Operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Reviews engineering release packages, including drawings, bills of material, and specifications, to prepare them for manufacturing execution.
  • Break down engineering documentation into detailed manufacturing tasks and work scopes for production teams.
  • Define the sequence of operations and manufacturing steps required to build each product or project.
  • Estimate labor hours and resource requirements for each phase of the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure engineering packages are complete, clear, and manufacturable before release to production.
  • Identify missing information, inconsistencies, or design concerns and coordinate with engineering to resolve them.
  • Define key manufacturing steps including fabrication, assembly, testing, and final integration.
  • Establish logical workflow and task sequencing to support efficient manufacturing execution.
  • Provide labor estimates and manufacturing timelines that support production planning and scheduling activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work scopes, labor estimates, and production routings.
  • Ensure engineering and manufacturing documentation remains organized, accurate, and traceable within company systems.
  • Assist in maintaining standardized work breakdown and estimation methods.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the engineering-to-production handoff process.
  • Help develop standardized methods for breaking down engineering packages and estimating labor requirements.
  • Engineering Package Analysis: Thoroughly review and analyze engineering packages to understand project scope and requirements. Identify key tasks and components essential for project execution.
  • Collaboration with Departments: Liaise with engineering, production, and other relevant departments to gather input on resource availability and capabilities.
  • Facilitate communication to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.
  • Resource Allocation: Distribute estimated project timelines among appropriate departments.
  • Participates in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.
  • Answer questions and provide guidance to other team members.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Additional experience will be considered in lieu of the required level of education.
  • Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering degree preferred.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:



  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing a team in a production environment


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to translate complex technical designs into clear manufacturing work scopes.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively across engineering and production teams.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to

interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. Must be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds. Must use assistance when lifting 50 or more pounds.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.
Hourly Pay Range Minimum $26.61 - Midpoint $33.26
