SUMMARY:
The Therapeutic Activities Coordinator for Inpatient Behavioral Health will work as part of the multidisciplinary treatment team to develop and plan the therapeutic, recreational, and educational programs and services for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with psychiatric, behavioral, and emotional disorders and intellectual/developmental disabilities on the Inpatient Behavioral Health Units. The Therapeutic Activities Coordinator will take the lead in planning, organizing, and directing therapeutic and recreation programs to enhance the therapeutic milieu. The incumbent will provide education to members of the multidisciplinary team and will ensure consistent execution of the therapeutic program as designed. This role will report directly to the Director of Behavioral Health and will work with other leaders within the multidisciplinary treatment team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
In collaboration with key members of the treatment team and unit leadership, develops and maintains a therapeutic program.Provides structured activities and facilitates unit programming to support the care and safety to patients on the behavioral health units.Responsible for formulation of the day-to-day schedule and structure of a therapeutic milieu and the implementation observation and documentation of this program under the direction of a unit leadership.As a member of a multidisciplinary team assesses developmental psychosocial and intellectual needs of patients to plan, organize, and direct a therapeutic program that will help to alleviate some of the stress associated with illness and hospitalization as well as to promote the patient's social, emotional, and intellectual growth.Functions independently in demonstrated areas of competence in the delivery of sophisticated patient care, as able.Consistently utilizes safe effective crisis management techniques.Consistently takes initiative to suggest innovative changes and additions that improve the quality of milieu care on the unitDevelops a clear understanding of trauma and displays an empathetic compassionate nonjudgmental attitude toward patients and their families.Demonstrates outstanding initiative in organizing therapeutic unit activities and support/train staff in learning how this is accomplished.Provides guidance monitoring and role modeling to staff during activities.Demonstrates consistent ability to respectfully communicate with appropriate person on issues of concern/conflict.May be assigned to specialized responsibilities as determined by leadership.Demonstrates enhanced clinical expertise.Performs independently within division-specific policies and practices.Implements the treatment plan in accordance with unit policies and procedures and demonstrates the ability to set consistent and supportive therapeutic limits within unit and department standards.Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and encourages their participation in recreational and other therapeutic activities.Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the group room and reporting any safety hazards to supervisor.In conjunction with leadership, maintains and manages the budget for the purchasing of supplies necessary for the therapeutic program.Assists in the management of milieu disruptions by providing timely therapeutic interventions.Assists in placing patients in seclusion and/or restraints according to policy and procedures.Maintains patient confidentiality and respects patient right to privacyConsult with nursing personnel, medical staff, and other members of the health team to assess the recreational needs of patientsParticipate in meetings to discuss and evaluate program techniques and content.Provides appropriate recreational therapy education to family/caregiver.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Baccalaureate in counseling, therapeutic recreation, psychology, sociology, or other human services discipline required.Master's Degree in social work, counseling, group therapy, psychology, sociology, education, or other human services discipline preferred.span lang=FR font-size: 12ptCurrent CPR certification.Experience with group therapy and/or therapeutic recreation programs include courses in assessment, treatment and program planning, intervention, design, and evaluation is strongly preferred.Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.EXPERIENCE:Two years of experience in the in planning, organizing, and directing of therapeutic activities and programs is preferred.Experience working with behavioral health patients within the inpatient setting preferred.WORK ENVIRONMENT ANDPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.INDEPENDENT ACTION:Responds to individual patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education, certification, and work experience. Abnormal situations are referred to direct supervisor.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:Indirect supervision of those involved in conducting therapeutic activities.

Pay Range:

$61,422.40-$101,337.60
