Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pharmacy Informatics Specialist.

In this role, the successful candidate As part of the Pharmacy Informatics team, this position is responsible for coordinating pharmacy information systems/automation and supporting the pharmacy business & analytics team as it relates to pharmacy systems for all pharmacy facilities within the NYU Langone system. Key areas of focus will be analyzing current pharmacy workflows as well as real time data in order to identify and reduce the likelihood of medication errors, dispensing delays, and billing inaccuracies, etc. Additionally, this position will assist drafting pharmacy systems related education and training documents, policies and procedures, and general reporting and monitoring as appropriate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as liaison between the pharmacy department and various teams, including nursing, medical staff, and Epic teams/Information systems departments, to ensure safe and efficient pharmacy systems and automation dispensing processes. Collaborates with pharmacy managers in support of services provided by Departments of Pharmacy (clinical, operations, safety, etc.) as it relates to pharmacy systems.
  • Responsible for standardization of medication ordering, processing, and dispensing practices as it pertains to pharmacy information and automation systems across all NYUMC pharmacy locations.
  • Maintains pharmacy acquisition, WAC and 340B costs and assists in charge configuration reviews with revenue cycle and Willow teams. This will require routine consult with the pharmacy purchasing staff and the pharmacy drug wholesaler to ensure accurate pricing and purchase unit configuration in all related electronic billing systems.
  • Foster a safety-first culture for patients and staff while continuously improving operational efficiency. Escalate issues to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and educational materials related to pharmacy systems and automation.
  • Promote a non-punitive reporting approach for medication variances when identified as due to an individual/group involvement. Provides tools and coaching sessions to establish an environment for improvement when necessary.
  • Contributes and supports event detection, strategic planning, and proactive efficiency assessments to help create a system-based approach for a safe and efficient medication dispensing process.
  • Performs billing quality assurance (QA) before and after price uploads, as well as when new medications are approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P&T). Escalate issues to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Evaluates and monitors pharmacy systems enhancements, updates, and downstream effects on automation - implement modifications as appropriate. Supports related pharmacy applications including, but not limited to, system upgrade and maintenance, which may require working during off hours.
  • Reviews, qualifies, trends, and reports on pharmacy metrics and provide relevant benchmarks/analysis. Provide aforementioned reports and analysis to assist the department on improvement initiatives, allocation/re-distribution of resources, multidisciplinary clinical workflow improvements, etc.
  • Ensures pharmacy and automation systems compliance with Joint Commission Medication Management Standards as well as any federal/state/local regulations as they pertain to medication dispensing or security.
  • Participates in scholarly/professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy. New York State Pharmacy License. Effective communication and interpersonal skills..

Required Licenses: Pharmacist License-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:
Informatics degree or certification
340B ACE Certification
Project management experience
Strong Microsoft Excel skills with experience in Tableau, Power BI, SQL and other data analytic/visualization platforms
Prior experience with Epic implementation

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $121,792.22 - $160,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
