We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support engineering, research and development activities, prototype builds, and transition-to-production efforts. Ascentek is developing innovative high-power battery packs with integrated battery management systems and extreme durability. This role works closely with engineers in an electronics prototype laboratory, assisting in the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and evaluation of products. The Engineering Technician supports daily build activities, follows established processes and safety standards, provides technical feedback, and contributes to continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Build & Assembly:



  • Perform product assembly, including mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical builds.
  • Assemble and disassemble prototype components for testing and evaluation.
  • Build, test, and troubleshoot electronic circuit boards, cables, test fixtures, and assemblies.
  • Assist with crating and shipment of products.
  • Improve manufacturing processes, including drafting or updating assembly instructions.


Engineering Support:



  • Navigate SolidWorks models and drawings to understand assemblies, identify discrepancies, and clarify build processes.
  • Complete Production Concerns Requests (PCR) when build issues or discrepancies are discovered.
  • Submit Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) for machine or product continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with Engineering, Production Leads, Managers, Quality, and Operations to solve technical problems.
  • Provide technical support to engineers across a wide variety of tasks and projects.
  • Assist with manufacturing transfer activities for new products.
  • Identify and support second-sourcing efforts for off-the-shelf components.


Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting:



  • Conduct mechanical, electrical, and thermal testing on components and assemblies.
  • Support verification and validation activities, including writing and executing test protocols.
  • Record, analyze, and report test results with accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail.
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting prototypes, circuits, and production equipment.
  • Follow established test procedures, work instructions, and safety standards.
  • Utilize laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, meters, generators, and pneumatic/electrical tools.


Documentation & Continuous Improvement:



  • Assist with documentation such as test procedures, technical reports, work instructions, and hardware configurations.
  • Provide feedback to engineering regarding product performance, reliability, and improvements.
  • Support development of checkout procedures and standard time requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within engineering and lab environments.


Lab & Workplace Organization:



  • Ensure work areas remain organized, safe, and compliant with 5S workplace organization standards.
  • Support daily and weekly 5S tasks and improvements.
  • Understand parts shortages, priorities, and communicate constraints appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Education:



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's Degree or technical certificate in Engineering Technology, Electronics, or related field preferred.


Experience and/or Training:



  • 2+ years of hands-on electronics, testing, or technician experience in an engineering or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals.
  • Experience reading schematics, drawings, and following technical instructions.
  • Basic soldering skills and ability to earn IPC J-STD-001 certification with provided training.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, meters, signal generators, analyzers, and other lab equipment.
  • Experience with pneumatic and electrical hand tools.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Excellent attention to detail and strong record-keeping habits.
  • Strong computer aptitude; proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Safety-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment.


      • Familiarity with CAD (Inventor/SolidWorks) preferred.
      • Experience with data acquisition systems or test software preferred.
      • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) is a plus.
      • Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
      • Experience in industries such as automotive, energy storage, aerospace, or consumer electronics.

      Mental Demands: Comprehend and follow instructions, perform assigned tasks, maintain an appropriate work pace, perform complex or varied tasks, relate to others, influence people, make decisions, direct, control, plan, interact with public or coworkers in written form, communicate orally, etc.

      Environmental demands: This role typically operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. Hands-on work with electronic hardware and test equipment is required.

      The anticipated hiring range for the role you are applying for is between $26.54 and $30hourly. This anticipated hiring range is based on several factors, and subject to increase based on the below:



      1. Experience and qualifications: The depth of relevant experience and specific skills you bring to the position.
      2. Education and certifications: Any additional qualifications that enhance your ability to succeed in the role.
