Position Description:

The Quality Engineer supports the Quality Manager in implementing lean manufacturing processes and supports efforts in maintaining the quality management system. Additional responsibilities include supporting the Company's quality initiatives by performing visual, and dimensional inspections coupled with documentation reviews to ensure compliance with quality and performance standards. This position has a key role in interacting effectively with the Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Service, and Materials Management.

  • Will interact and work closely with other departments to resolve quality issues
  • Implementing and maintaining standards of the Mt. Juliet Plant Quality Management System.
  • Will be required to perform visual and dimensional measurement inspections, non-destructive product testing and be able to use handheld gauges
  • Will be responsible for documenting, updating, and filling new and current quality documentation

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • MRB Meetings: Lead the daily Material Review Board meetings to disposition non-conforming material. Document all non-conformances and record in Oracle nonconforming process to track the dispositions and occurrences of the non-conformances.
  • First Piece Inspection: Coordinate and prioritize with production teams First Piece Inspections. Document and record first piece inspections to keep track of workload and average inspection times.
  • Gage Calibrations: Review and complete yearly gage calibrations of all gages used in the facility utilizing the calibration database.
  • Production & Assembly Support: Support machining and assembly personnel as requested with inspection activities and internal non-conformance investigations. Document all support on the appropriate forms provided for traceability and dispositioning.
  • Communication: Communicate to supervisor and others on a daily basis using verbal and written communications of any and all issues that arise on the shop floor or Quality Lab.
  • Quality Improvement & Accountability: Work with Quality Department personnel, machinists, assemblers, Quality activities. Take accountability for assignments, projects, and day to day responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively use all measuring hand tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators)
  • Must have complete understanding of 5 WHY / 8D / Root Cause Analysis methodologies
  • Must have a good understanding of GD&T specifications & blueprint reading
  • Must have working knowledge of APQP processes (PFMEA / Control Plans / Gage R&R)
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office software for creating quality related documents
  • Assists in the development of standardized work instructions & process maps
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of documentation required to meet customer's standards
  • Work closely with production staff to solve quality problems and answer questions on quality
  • Capable of managing and completing multiple tasks accurately and expeditiously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and complete work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Experience:

  • 3+ years of working in a quality type role.
  • 2+ years of experience working with tight tolerance machined products with GD&T
  • 2+ years of working with handheld measuring equipment.

Education & Certification Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering related field
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE); other ASQ certifications, desirable
  • Formal problem-solving certifications {Root Cause Analysis} desirable
  • 3 to 5 years' quality experience in a manufacturing setting.
