Camp Registered Nurse (RN) - Children's Kidney Camp
The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM)

The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) offers a specialized Summer Camp program for children and adolescents who have chronic kidney failure, are on dialysis, or have had a kidney transplant. This program is part of their comprehensive nephrology services designed to address the medical, emotional, and social needs of young patients.

The Camp RN will join The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) for a rewarding two-week rotation at the Children's Kidney Camp located in Frost Valley, New York. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide life-changing care for children with chronic kidney disease in a traditional outdoor setting. You will ensure that campers receiving dialysis or transplants can safely enjoy the "magic of camp" alongside their peers.

Program Details
The camp is staffed by pediatric nephrology attending physicians and dialysis nurses, primarily from CHAM, providing a unique, safe, and nurturing environment for campers to connect outside of a clinical setting.

Session 1: June 28th - July 10th

  • Key Responsibilities
    Provide direct nursing care to campers with chronic kidney disease, including those receiving dialysis and those with a history of kidney transplant, during the assigned one-week camp session.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and established camp protocols.
  • Assess and monitor campers' clinical status, including vital signs, fluid balance, intake and output, and overall wellness throughout the session.
  • Respond to acute medical needs, minor illnesses, injuries, and urgent concerns that arise during camp activities.
  • Support and assist with dialysis-related care and coordination in collaboration with the on-site pediatric nephrology team and dialysis staff.
  • Participate in daily health assessments, nursing rounds, and shift handoff communication with the Camp Nurse Coordinator and interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation related to assessments, interventions, medications, and incident reporting.
  • Collaborate with camp counselors and staff to support campers' safe participation in scheduled activities, including outdoor recreation, swimming, arts, and group events.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to campers and communicate effectively with families, camp leadership, and the medical team as needed.
  • Adhere to all CHAM, Frost Valley, and camp health and safety policies during the assigned rotation.

Qualifications
Licensure:Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license and Registration

Certifications:BLS required (PALS preferred). NYS Infection Control

Experience:At least 1 year of pediatric nursing experience; prior experience in Nephrology, Dialysis, or Transplant care is highly preferred.
