The Civic Openness, Reasoning, and Engagement Incubator is a new project housed within the School of
Public Policy (SPP). Reporting to the CORE Incubator's Director, the Deputy Director for Outreach (DDO) manages daily operations and is responsible for existing and new programming related to events, outreach, and regional capacity building. The role includes active involvement in all phases of the project's three interconnected pillars-Training, Research, and Public Events-ensuring they operate as mutually reinforcing elements where outreach and campus activities are strongly aligned. The DD-O specifically monitors the applied research agenda (focusing on work related to deliberative quality and polarization reduction) to ensure that research findings inform how CORE's curriculum is disseminated and implemented beyond UCR. The DD-O serves as a lead representative of the CORE Incubator to external stakeholders-including municipal governments, K-12 districts, nonprofits, and agencies such as the California Air Resources Board and the Government Accountability Office-and is responsible for maintaining these relationships to ensure programming reflects regional and concerns and needs. In addition to these outreach priorities, and in collaboration with the Deputy Director for Campus Integration (DD-CI), the position oversees non-academic administrative activities, collaborates with the Project Coordinator to ensure compliance with Department of Education protocols, and co-mentors Integration Ambassadors (graduate students who are embedded within the incubator) through bi-weekly progress and skill-building assessments. The DD-O also identifies and pursues diverse external funding streams from foundations and federal agencies to support the incubator's sustainability. The position requires a multidisciplinary skill set across stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, program management, and development, along with a broad understanding of civic discourse issues and the ability to engage with relevant applied research. Operating with a high degree of independence and decision-making authority, the DD-O is the principal driver of the CORE Incubator's regional footprint and is responsible for setting and executing the project's long-term outreach vision and strategic partnerships. The full salary range for the Deputy Director for Outreach for the CORE Incubator is $103,100.00 - $196,300 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $103,100 annually (full-time base rate). This is a 50% part-time appointment. Salary will be prorated according to appointment percentage.
