SUMMARY: The Director of Quality & Patient Safety is a reports to the Brown University Health Chief Quality Officer, with a dotted line to the entity CMO/CNO. This role provides strategic leadership for quality, patient safety, and performance improvement programs. Responsibilities include:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Brown University Health employees are expected to successfully role model the organization's values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence as these guide our everyday actions with patients, customers and one another. Lead a team of quality and patient safety specialists to meet and exceed customer expectations. Oversee investigations of critical events, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans. Contribute to the submission of reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies (e.g., Department of Health, Joint Commission). Direct resource utilization (staff, financial, material) to achieve organizational goals. Establish quality departmental priorities aligned with organizational strategies. Serve as liaison to Medical Staff departments for quality improvement initiatives. Lead improvement teams using performance improvement methodologies; manage clinical and patient safety data. Monitor and report performance metrics for diagnostic populations and core measures. Collaborate with hospital leaders to design and implement process improvement initiatives. Support employee engagement and customer service training programs. Develop and maintain a robust patient experience program in collaboration with Human Experience leadership. Facilitate communication of improvement strategies across hospital and system committees. Coach staff and frontline teams on improvement strategies and best practices. Performance Standards Effective resource utilization and fiscal responsibility Continuous quality improvement and measurable performance gains High-quality, patient-focused services Positive feedback from peers, staff, and leadership Year-over-year improvement in quality metrics EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare-related discipline required Master's degree in a healthcare field required Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent preferred CPHQ, CPPS, or other quality certifications preferred EXPERIENCE: Minimum 7 years in quality measurement, reporting, and process improvement Expertise in performance improvement systems and project management Proficiency with EHR systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and data management tools Strong facilitation, leadership, and analytical skills SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for direct and indirect supervision of management, professional and administrative staff, including selection, direction and evaluation.
