IMEG is hiring a Surveyor of Distinction in Rock Island, Illinois, to serve as a recognized technical expert leading strategic surveying initiatives focused on technical expertise, survey data integrity, and quality assurance. In this role, you will help shape the quality, innovation, and technical excellence of IMEG's delivered survey products while strengthening the firm's reputation through expert leadership and decision-making. You'll also influence team standards, technical operations, and the adoption of new technologies across projects.

Principal Responsibilities

* Provide expert guidance to team members on technical surveying, boundary, and geospatial needs for projects
* Serve as a technical resource for complex boundary resolutions, geodetic issues, and difficult field conditions, including site visits with minimal assistance from senior staff
* Represent IMEG's technical expertise through conference speaking, national technical boards, articles, and whitepapers
* Make major recommendations regarding methods of practice, equipment utilization, and legal boundary interpretation with limited senior staff input
* Plan survey execution strategies for projects of all sizes and assign technical duties, including control networks and LiDAR versus conventional methods
* Review correspondence, legal descriptions, cutsheets, and surveyor reports prepared by junior staff for legal and technical accuracy
* Lead quality control for boundary determination, topographic datasets, construction layout reports, and data precision
* Drive adoption of IMEG standard processes and new technologies across technical operations for both large and small projects
* Analyze technical problems and prepare detailed surveyor reports for high-liability projects
* Play a significant role in quality-control reviews for large, complex projects

Required Qualifications and Skills

* Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
* Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License required; Multi-state licensure preferred
* 25 years of experience minimum required, 30 preferred, in the land surveying engineering consulting industry
* Mastery of surveying techniques, boundary law principles, geodesy, equipment and surveying tools, and concepts involved in the production of plats, ALTA/NSPS Surveys, construction stakeout documents and technical reports.
* Expert level mastery of technical and analytical skills; demonstrated aptitude to lead survey calculation and mapping efforts for large and highly technical projects.
* Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills with the ability to transfer historical and technical knowledge to the next generation of surveyors.
* Ability to mentor, motivate, and lead others in technical excellence
* Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
* Ability to develop client relationships through technical trust and expert consultation.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
* Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
* Eagerness to adapt to new challenges and emerging geospatial technologies.
* Expert in industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3d, Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, or similar processing tools)
* Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays

State of Illinois Hourly Range: $55.00 Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
