Overview:

We have an opening for a Sheet Metal Worker. In this role you will, under limited supervision, fabricate,installand repair products that aid in the facility maintenance or research operations of the laboratory.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design, sketch, read and interpret templates, blueprints, drawings,sketchesand verbalinstructions
  • Determineproject requirements, such as scope, assembly sequences,requiredmethods ormaterials
  • Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines onmaterial
  • Fabricate,installandmaintainheating,ventilationand air-conditioning duct systems as well as roofs, siding, rain gutters, downspouts, exhaust equipment, hoods, outdoor signs, machineguardsand many other products made from various sheetmetals
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff or smooth surfaces, seams, or joints of assembled parts, using hand tools or portable powertools
  • Fasten seams or joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal driveclipsor bonds to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metalitems
  • Operate shop equipment to roll, bend,shearand punchmetals
  • Coordinate with peers, Facility Managers, Supervisors and Engineers to complete jobs
  • Work with Welders and other crafts to carry-outassignments
  • Abiding by the principles of Safe Conduct of Research including being personally responsible for ensuring safe operations by raising safety concerns, using a questioning attitude, considering hazards for every task, and never stop learning.
  • Other work as assigned bymanagement

Basic (or Required) Qualifications:

  • We require the completion of an apprenticeship program for Sheet Metal Workers and 5 years of experience in the sheet metal field, or an equivalent combination of formal training and work experience.
  • Physical Requirements: Work will involve various physical requirements and certain working conditions and as such a post offer, pre-hire physical will berequired.
  • Visa Sponsorship:Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal training program and industrial experience.
  • Experience using laser cutting machinery.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs,usesand maintenance.
  • Good mechanical, mathematical and reading skills.
  • General computer skills.
  • Ability to perform basic trade skills related to the use of tools and creation of material lists.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning toidentifystrengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to choose the mostappropriate action.
  • Ability to give attention to detail and thoroughly complete work tasks.
