West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Beckley, WV is seeking applications for a Women's Head Softball Coach.

About the Opportunity

As the Head Softball Coach, you will be responsible for all aspects of coaching a collegiate softball team. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. WVU offers generous benefits, including:

What You'll Do

  • Duties include total responsibilities as required for an NAIA Division I or NCAA Division II Women's Softball Program.
  • Attend all departmental meetings.
  • Prepare NAIA, USCAA and/or NCAA, institutional scholarship award forms and submitting signed contracts for scholarships.
  • Evaluate talent in current and prospective student-athletes.
  • Organize and conduct a strength conditioning program.
  • Provide compliance director with freshman and returning player's information to complete eligibility form.
  • Coordinate team meetings, athletic study halls for Women's Softball athletes, strength and conditioning work outs, etc.
  • Monitor the academic progress, retention rates and graduation rates of Women's Softball players
  • Responsible for discipline and conduct of student-athletes participating in Women's Softball .
  • Remain current and adhere to all Institutional, NCAA and/or NAIA/USCAA rules
  • Responsible for annual inventories and preparation for equipment purchases according to state purchasing policies.
  • Responsible for all travel arrangements and taking care of travel expenses according to state policies
  • Fundraising responsibilities and working with outside groups to receive funds for athletics and Women's Softball.
  • Maintain a competitive Women's Softball program.
  • Responsible for recruiting quality student athletes that meets the criteria established by the Athletic Administration.
  • Responsible for field maintenance and preparation as assigned.
  • Responsible for event management as assigned.
  • Additional administrative responsibility based upon skills and qualifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Appointment Length: 10 months

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the following:
    • Softball Coaching Experience (high school or collegiate preferred)
    • Conducting Softball camps/clinics
    • Successful experience in the recruitment of collegiate student-athletes
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Successful Softball coaching experience on the high school or college level preferred, either as a head coach or assistant coach.
  • Successful experience in the recruitment of collegiate student-athletes.
  • A proven record in working positively with administration, students, athletic department staff and Director of Athletics in developing and maintaining a good working relationship with the institution and the community.
  • Excellent computer skills.
