General Responsibilities: Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of transportation projects and clients, including public works, DOTs, and private sector partners. Responsibilities include leading geotechnical and pavement-focused field investigations, engineering analysis and design, calculations, and recommendations. Prepare and review related reports, track and evaluate project progress and budgets, and resolve design and construction issues. Communicate complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards. Lead client development efforts, building and maintaining strong relationships within the transportation sector to support business growth and project success.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead safety efforts for the team and model a safe work environment. Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Provide consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery. Develop understanding of project-related risk and protect the company's interests. Senior-level engineering professional providing technical direction for both routine and complex projects. Conceptualize initial design and investigative approaches for major transportation projects or segments. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work, including complex features and conflicting design requirements. Provide technical review of reports and supervise innovative investigation techniques. Lead technical training and make informed decisions based on state-of-the-art technology. Mentor and coach project team members to execute projects successfully. Supervise less experienced engineers or technical support personnel. Coordinate with project accountants for financial management, invoicing, and collections. Lead marketing, sales, and business development efforts, focusing on client development and relationship management in the transportation sector. Serve as an Authorized Project Reviewer as required.
Technical Focus Areas:
Development of Site Characterization reports, including geotechnical/geological narratives for identifying ground conditions and project risks. Geotechnical design recommendations for earthwork, bridge and wall foundations (shallow and deep), and retaining structures. Required analyses: external stability (bearing resistance, sliding, overturning, eccentricity), settlement (short-term, total, rate), rotational stability. Identification and management of geotechnical risk items impacting design and construction costs/schedules.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Master's preferred). Minimum 8-11 years' experience in engineering, with significant transportation sector experience. Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history. Transportation experience with DOTs required.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Project management and technical leadership for large-scale transportation projects. Strong client development and business development experience in the transportation sector. Experience mentoring and coaching project teams. Familiarity with financial management of projects.
