| Position Purpose |
Under the general direction of the Director of Library Services and in close collaboration with Library faculty and staff, this position oversees the operations and management of the Technical Services Department, including managing the Technical Services budget, acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resources, technical services systems (e.g., Alma, Primo, EZproxy, link resolver, etc.), and collection maintenance. This position supervises, trains, and manages para-professional staff members. Primary responsibilities include ensuring seamless discovery and access to library resources, effective management of collections budgets and licenses, efficient workflows across technical services, strategic stewardship of the library collections, and representing Evergreen within consortial and campus technology initiatives.

| Essential Functions |
Technical Services Management - 45%
- Identify, plan, coordinate, direct, and evaluate activities in Technical Services, including acquisitions, cataloging, processing; establish and refine workflows to ensure a smooth flow of materials between ordering, receiving, processing, and other areas of the library.
- Supervise, train, and mentor staff; ensure team members have the knowledge, skills, space, tools, and facilities required to perform effectively; evaluate and complete annual Professional Development Plans for direct reports and keep job descriptions current.
- Anticipate high-volume ordering and processing periods; adjust staffing and workflows to meet service levels and deadlines.
- Monitor acquisitions budgets and encumbrances for collections and subscriptions; provide regular reports to stakeholders on spending, trends, and alignment with institutional priorities.
- Perform original descriptive, subject, and authority cataloging and classification in accordance with established cataloging rules and standards; resolve complicated technical questions and problems, including complex acquisition orders and bibliographic record issues.
- Maintain high-quality bibliographic and holdings data in Alma and Primo; address broken links, unavailable records, and other catalog/access issues that impact user experience.
- Act as primary technical services contact for receiving and distributing gift materials; organize special projects to address backlogs or workflow improvements.
Electronic Resources & Systems Management - 45%
- Maintain and develop library systems to ensure reliable access across formats (e-journals, e-books, streaming media); manage the A-Z Database list, link resolver, and EZproxy authentication); plan for and support integrations with campus and consortial platforms (e.g., institutional repository).
- Coordinate and lead ILS (Alma/Primo) and other hosted systems upgrades and migrations: perform or delegate administrative and technical tasks; ensure documentation is current; provide staff training to support technical proficiency and efficient use of systems.
- In collaboration with the Procurement Office, negotiate license agreements and work with vendors and consortia to achieve fair terms, pricing, and sustainable access models; advocate for open access, shared models, digital accessibility compliance and perpetual access.
- Perform and troubleshoot complex ordering, original cataloging, and processing for new e-resource subscriptions to provide timely access in Alma and Primo.
- Manage configurations, updates, and maintenance of Ex Libris Primo discovery service.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system, access, and content issues; work directly with aggregators, vendors, publishers, and consortial partners to diagnose and fix complex problems impacting discovery and access.
- Prepare statistical and administrative reports on electronic resources and collections, including use, cost-per-use, overlap analyses, and curricular relevance; present findings to library selectors and stakeholders; identify trends to inform decision-making and collection strategies.
- Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Office of Information Technology, Academic Budget Office, Purchasing & Contracts, Facilities, Student Affairs, Marketing) to align library systems and services with campus-wide technology initiatives and timelines.
- Represent the Evergreen Library on systems, electronic resources, and technical teams within the Orbis Cascade Alliance.
Professional Development/Other - 10%
- Develop and steward assigned collections; perform weeding as appropriate; plan and monitor budgets and spending for these collections.
- Participate in, and at times lead, library and college committees (including co-chairing the library assessment committee); collaborate across departments to support shared goals and continuous improvement in library services.
- Represent Evergreen in professional organizations and external groups as appropriate to advance library systems and acquisitions best practices.
- Perform other duties as requested by the library leadership.

| Knowledge Skills and Abilities |
- Knowledge of electronic resource content models, emerging formats, acquisition methods, licensing, and access models; practical understanding of copyright and fair use, including archival rights, perpetual access, and interlibrary loan considerations.
- Proficiency with library tools and platforms including Alma/Primo (or related Integrated Library System), EZproxy (or other authentication system), link resolvers, data collection/usage analytics services, discovery services, ERM software, and bibliographic utilities (e.g., OCLC WorldCat/WorldShare, GOBI); familiarity with related hardware (copiers, printers, hand-held scanners).
- Comprehensive knowledge of acquisitions, original cataloging, records management, and processing within academic libraries; ability to apply cataloging standards (e.g., AACR2/RDA), Library of Congress classification and subject headings, and MARC coding to diverse materials.
- Ability to analyze and improve workflows; plan and coordinate work to ensure effective and efficient outcomes; implement change management to adopt new technologies or services.
- Demonstrated success working collaboratively and effectively in team environments-including consortial collaborations-and across significant differences.
- Strong project management skills: ability to plan, execute, evaluate, and document technology and process improvement projects.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with a high level of accuracy; ability to respond promptly to issues and to ensure fair, timely resolution.
- Ability to anticipate high-volume periods and adjust policies, procedures, and staffing/workflows accordingly.

- Current awareness of professional trends and best practices, particularly in rapidly evolving library information technologies.

- An ALA-accredited graduate degree in library/information science.
- Three years of professional experience in an academic library, with substantial responsibilities in systems administration and/or acquisitions/technical services.
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Experience with Alma and Primo (or equivalent ILS/discovery system), EZproxy (or other authentication system), link resolvers, ERM workflows, and troubleshooting access/subscription-related problems.
- Experience negotiating licenses and managing vendor relationships.
- Experience acquiring and providing access to library collections and services through the college budget lines and in a consortial environment (e.g., Orbis Cascade Alliance).
- Experience supporting diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty.

| Conditions of Employment |
- Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
- This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by the Classified collective bargaining agreement.
