Overview
Incumbents in the Lab Technician series work in the Dairy Production Lab and Aggie Chocolate Factory as well as other needs throughout the Nutrition, Dairy, and Food Science Department. Incumbents set up lab experiments and/or participate in the installation of equipment for specified classes or laboratory research projects. Duties may include making chemical solutions, cleaning up after labs, cheese and ice cream making as well as processing fluid milk. This position is 30-hours/week with the potential for more hours during the summer. You will be given a standard schedule, but hours must be flexible as production needs will vary.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the production and packaging of fluid milk, ice cream, cheese and other products. Maintains supply inventory.
  • Work with production coordinator to ensure proper cleaning of all plant equipment and rooms. May provide lab safety guidelines to lab students.
  • Assist the production coordinator in all necessary ancillary functions of the DPL, which may include school and public tours, inspections and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Assist the production coordinator in the effort to document and carry out all sanitation activities according to the established sanitation Standard Operating Procedures manual. Maintains equipment.
  • Keep proper records of documentation of sanitation activities.
  • Carry out microbial testing on milk and ice cream products for each production run. Maintains quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ensure that testing is done in a timely manner and according to proper techniques.
  • Conduct complete inventory of supplies, which is documented and submitted to the Business Coordinator monthly, by a specified date.
  • Drive box truck to pickup and deliver dairy products within Cache Valley.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in a production facility or lab of up to six months is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in cheese production
  • Experience in a dairy facility.
  • Experience in production.
