Job Summary

The Entry-Level Data Center Technician supports the installation, maintenance, and organization of structured cabling and equipment within critical data center environments. This contract-to-hire opportunity provides hands-on training and mentorship while building experience in the telecom and low voltage industry. The role involves fiber and cable installation, cable management, equipment installation, infrastructure buildouts, and adherence to established safety standards. Candidates should be dependable, punctual, safety-focused, and comfortable performing physically demanding work in a construction-oriented environment.

Job Responsibilities




  • Perform cable infrastructure and fiber rough-in installations.



  • Dress, route, organize, and label cabling according to project specifications.



  • Perform cable and fiber terminations.



  • Rack and stack customer equipment.



  • Build out server racks and follow rack elevation specifications.



  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, cabinets, and related infrastructure.



  • Assist with material receiving, inventory handling, and hardware assembly.



  • Support Outside Plant (OSP) installations, including routing fiber into data center facilities.



  • Read and follow blueprints, installation plans, and project specifications.



  • Follow written and verbal instructions while communicating professionally with colleagues and management.



  • Maintain a clean and organized jobsite.



  • Follow established safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and OSHA safety practices.



  • Perform labor-intensive construction and installation tasks while working at heights and in confined spaces as required.




Job Requirements




  • 0-2 years of Data Center Technician, structured cabling, low voltage, telecommunications, construction, or related experience.



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.



  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and installation plans.



  • Ability to work safely on ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and remain physically active for the duration of the shift.



  • Ability to perform physically demanding work while wearing required PPE.



  • Strong punctuality, attendance, reliability, and work ethic.



  • Ability to work effectively in a construction-oriented data center environment.



  • Basic hand tools required, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.

  • Typical shift begins at 6:00 AM.



  • Must be available to work overtime based on project demands.



  • Project schedules may require 10-12 hour shifts and work schedules of up to 6-7 days per week.



  • Must be open to travel based on project requirements.



  • Consistent punctuality, attendance, and dependable work performance are essential.
