Position Summary

Under indirect supervision, coordinates, designs, and delivers a variety of specified training and development programs for the New Mexico LTAP Center. This individual will be responsible for the transportation of, and subsequent training on, a heavy equipment simulator to remote New Mexico locals.

The New Mexico Local Technical Assistance Program (NM-LTAP) is looking for a motivated Training & Development Specialist at the University of New Mexico. The NM-LTAP Center is funded by the NMDOT and FHWA to provide free (or low-cost) training to tribal, local, and public agencies (TLPAs) in New Mexico. NM-LTAP owns a Vortex Edge Max Heavy Equipment Simulator, which will be used to train (TLPAs) across the state through a mobile training unit. The Vortex Edge Max is user-friendly, and NM-LTAP staff have developed instructional materials and guides for the simulator to guide this employee and support participants.

We are seeking a part-time Training & Development Specialist who will receive and/or develop a training schedule with NM-LTAP staff and travel to remote locations in New Mexico to provide training to local agencies. This position will require significant overnight stays, as the individual will deliver training on-site throughout the state. A vehicle and trailer will be provided, and all per diem costs will be covered under the grant.

The ideal candidate for this job loves to travel throughout New Mexico, is comfortable driving a truck and trailer over long distances (including up to a full day's drive) and is dedicated to developing participants' skills. This role will involve traveling 1-3 weeks per month to various training locations across the state. The individual in charge of this mobile training program will be responsible for transporting the simulator to training sites, where it may remain overnight for the duration of the training as necessary.

Applicants should be passionate about education and committed to supporting local communities. The ideal candidate is patient, recognizes the varying levels of technical experience among attendees, and, as a trainer, embodies the organization's mission. This individual will serve as the authority on the simulator and will require a great deal of personal responsibility/accountability for this exciting program.
