What to Expect

Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting. Tesla moves quickly, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works alongside engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between.

We are seeking a highly motivated Control Plan Lead to lead the Tesla Cell Control Plan program. Cell manufacturing requires orders of magnitude better quality than traditional manufacturing; the key to sustained success and scalability is a comprehensive process control system. This person will work with every team in Cell to build standardized deployment of process and quality controls that will be the source of truth for mitigating risk in global manufacturing sites. This person should be seasoned in manufacturing for high-reliability applications such as Li-ion cells, medical devices, semiconductors, or a similar field.

What You'll Do
  • Own the Control Plan program across all global Tesla Cell Manufacturing factories/sites
  • Lead Control Plan development from initial DFMEA for new designs through to sustaining Control Plans in high-volume production, ensuring strong alignment with PFDs, FMEAs, special/critical characteristics, control methods, measurement systems, and reaction plans
  • Improve all elements of the Control Plan system from business strategy to day-to-day activities (including keeping them as living documents updated with process changes, data, and lessons learned)
  • Establish KPIs to track implementation, effectiveness of controls (e.g., process capability, defect reduction), drive continuous improvement, and report progress to Sr/Exec leadership
  • Define and propose process and quality control enhancement projects for all levels of the organization, including working with factory teams to drive/implement solutions on the manufacturing floor (e.g., improved inspection, error-proofing, SPC)
  • Ensure universal adoption of best practices across the cell ecosystem, incorporating lessons learned for each iteration of design and process
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional Control Plan development/review meetings with design, quality, manufacturing, materials, and process engineering teams
  • Mentor, upskill, and develop the Quality Engineering team to support each geographical location
  • Support related APQP/PPAP deliverables and audit Control Plans for completeness and effectiveness

What You'll Bring
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of developing/implementing robust Control Plans and process controls with tangible results (e.g., improved capability, reduced variation/defects)
  • Experience working with lithium-ion cells or high-reliability products like medical device or aerospace is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to convince stakeholders of the value of structured process controls
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions
  • Experience working with well-established quality standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, AIAG Control Plan/APQP, IATF 16949). Knowledge of related tools such as PFMEA, SPC, and MSA preferred
  • Passion for systematic problem-solving using systems
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and perform under high pressure
  • Fluent with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
